Yes. I addressed the same concern with my terminal's safety guy, and in response he showed me what they see on their end. The app still has the legacy setup for dual facing cams, but where the driver-facing footage would be there's instead a black (no signal) screen

    Lepton1 and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

Its black because he has it disabled in his software, it is still recording it, just because he did show it to you does not mean he does not have it, just means he has that view disabled on his software. They are notified every time you pass gas in that tractor. Following distance ( I'm in favor of it notifying the driver ) , lane departure which is triggered if you change lanes without your signal, which you should use, heavy braking, speed, to say the least.

Do you really think the " safety guy ", is going to tell you things the company has instructed him not to tell you. When I took my test drive I put a piece of electrical tape over the inside facing camera and they called the examiner in the truck from Phoenix to tell him to remove the obstruction, he further told us that if we cover the camera in the truck were issued they would fire us no warning, so if the camera is disabled how would they know in Phoenix, Hmmmm...... Somebody is lying to somebody. In any case if your happy working for SWIFT great I'm thrilled for you......

But for me they lied to me about loads, hometime, taking the truck home and the cameras and this was all by the 3 hour of orientation (not to mention the nasty horrible hotel {old Red Roof Inn, Ontario}) that's enough for me to say bye, good luck... I also got 7 other drivers jobs with other companies on the way out the door that did not find it acceptable.

I all fairness the lady that conducted orientation was very professional so was the drive examiner, no surprises the recruiter was doing the fabrication.

How long ago was this? When Swift disabled the driver facing portion they sent out a Qualcomm message. A picture of It was posted here on-site. It said that they disabled the driver facing portion, etc... It also suggested to put tape over the lens.
Also, there would be legal repercussions if they recorded video when they said they were not. Wire tapping laws for the audio portion (Some states are all party states) and there are a few states with laws specifically prohibiting video recording without notification)

No, Occam's Razor states all things being equal, the simplest is most often the correct one. What's simpler? They they are following policy or there is some vast conspiracy to hide the fact they are recording?

But that sounds way too reasonable...

...how can you gussy up an excuse to quit orientation without a bit of hyperbole and conspiracy theories?

I'm not looking for pay in this, it's something I've always wanted to try. I've invested well over the years, started a business and did well selling it, and my wife makes more than enough. I loved that job for a long time but the past few years have just become ########. You never would see guys leave before 25 years but it is starting to become common, it's a great job pay and benefits wise but other than that it kinda sucks anymore. It served me very well as a young guy able to make a bunch of money and set myself up to go do whatever I want now.

Really? Because he straight up told me I could cover the driver facing lense with a piece of tape if I didn't believe him, and that I could quote him if anyone tried to start #### over it. That doesn't sound like the admonitions of a lying ####### to me

Well I have no reason to tell you anything, But I do have lots of experience. So believe what you will, matters not to me one way or the other. They lied about things that really do matter, like be hired for a dedicated account... Cameras really make no difference.

This was June 3rd that I walked out of orientation because of things they lied directly to me, I was driving the truck (granted it was a tractor used for driver check out drives only and only by safety department). I taped the lens myself in less than 5 minutes someone called the truck to tell the safety guy giving the examines to uncover the lens. I was there driving the truck. No one here can dispute what I witnessed my self. As far as suing over being videoed, doubt it they have you sign off on being recorded in the new hire pack, its included in junk online. That's not why I did not go to work for them.

To me being lied to about being put straight on a dedicated account, that would get me home several times per week, and off most weekends mattered more than a stupid camera. Or that they tell you upfront that if you get caught using your phone while driving for music or conversation with or without a headset is a bigger deal than the camera.

I did not quit Orientation over the camera. Honestly don't know why I believed a recruiter in the first place, We are all prone to an occasional error in judgement, this was mine.
