I'm not sure if I will be able to get that answer.
Walmart's policy, company wide, is trailers loaded with outgoing freight will be pulled from doors only by yard jockeys. I do not get a trailer number to hook to until the yard guy says it's been pulled.
I have no idea why that guy pulled the trailer. More importantly, if procedure was followed, how would he have known which trailer to pull in the first place?

At this DC, our dispatchers don't even know which trailer is assigned to which load until Walmart gives them the paperwork. The paperwork cannot be printed until the load is released by the warehouse. The warehouse does not release the load until the yard guy says the trailer has been pulled from the door and parked on the ready line. The yard guy does not pull the trailer until the warehouse says the door is closed and sealed and under no circumstances while there is a red light by the door. The warehouse does not tell the yard guy to pull the trailer until the load is complete, with conditions listed above in place. All of these steps are documented and time stamped in the computer.
So. Who dropped the ball? -
I work at the DC in Opelika,AL.,If he trailer is still on the door we can not touch it until the yard driver pulls it off.

Sounds like management drop the ball, but that is some of the complexities of working for a super big company, info does not get passed down.
-
It sounds more complex than it actually is. Reverse the steps and follow them forward instead of backward and it makes perfect sense. Each person along the process has their own connection to the computer system. As each is completed, the computer automatically updates and kicks the load to the next step.
So simple even a Walmart worker (or Swifty) could do it....supposedly.
Right now, we are still building the dedicated fleet. Many of the drivers are being temporarily "borrowed" from OTR. When we deliver to Walmart DCs, we dock and pull our own trailers. Unless a temp driver has been told otherwise, known procedure will be followed. It's all about communication, which failed miserably in this case.
I'm glad it was just a scare and nobody was hurt.DenaliDad Thanks this. -
I asked my neighbor(pulling blue and white china wagons in Shelbyville) and he says they are set for now. How long that is he has no idea but says in the near future GW has Shelbyville. Good thing too about half those boys just bought new rigs last year.
