I wonder if you can train @ SWIFT and get on the WMRT dedicated in Fl. right out of school?

Most if not all the GW drivers and the drivers on the account will be from FL as it is a requirement that you live near the DC.

    Exit,

Injun could answer that for you.

I've seen it happen. There's a guy at this DC who went right onto the account out of training.

I live over 200 miles from the DC, yet got on the account. Never hurts to try.

I live over 600 miles from the one that I am on. It can happen. When time to go home, Edwardsville just gets me a load home, and after home time, a load right back to KC

I have yet another bothersome question for you! :biggrin_25511: Do you apply for dedicated positions via your driver manager?

When I was with Swift I told my DM that I was interested in a certain account and she said she would put my name in for it. She said I was qualified for consideration. After hearing nothing after she said she put my name in the runningh I got ahold of the person in charge of that account and they said my name was never put in. This was the last straw for my frustration level at the time and I gave notice and left.

I was wondering if my DM knew what she was talking about or if I went about it the wrong way.

At the time it ended up being my best move, as I was a few months later diagnosed with stage 3 thyroid cancer and would have had to come off the road anyway. Thankfully I am now cancer free and ready to go back to driving.

Generally, the DM is the way to apply. But, some DMs are uh...less than ethical and will "forget" to put a good driver's name in the hat for a better assignment. DMs are "scored" on how their drivers run with consideration to average miles, safety and service throughout their fleets. If you find yourself with a DM dragging feet to help you get an assignment you want, go up the food chain: FM, then TM...

The folks in charge of those accounts won't take "just anybody" on, so it's a good idea to have a little experience with them. They can put a word in for you, too. That's how it worked for me.

Thanks Injun. That was the crux of my meltdown with Swift. I was told by the FM over this dedicated account that I was exactly what they were looking for and it was "a shame" that my name didn't get passed on. My grandson, who lives with us, was 10 at the time and having a very tough time with me being gone all the time. This dedicated run would have put me "through the house" about three times a week. Plus miles in '09 were terrible and this offered at least 2200 per week.

I have learned so much more than I knew then so going back I feel like, thanks to posts here on these threads, I am much better prepared to take on issues like this by going up the proper channels. You all probably don't realize what a great bit of good you do for drivers who are thinking of coming back or newbies thinking about a career change. Kudos to you all.

Yes, I'm going to resurrect this one.

My DM went to Arcadia permanently. If anyone can meet the challenge of getting things smoothed out, he's the guy. My terminal is now in the process of hiring a few new office people. Even though the office is running on a skeleton crew, things seem pretty even from my end. Some might disagree with me or scoff, but I believe it's due directly to a good leadership team. Hopefully the guy who went down there will carry that with him.

Now. I just got one heck of an education. WoT is full of some pretty good stories. File them in the fiction section:

One thing I really like about this forum is you only get three or four days to go back and change your story. Inconsistencies will remain forever after that time point. I challenge anyone to find inconsistencies with what I have said, in stark contrast to this.
