I think you miss read the guy griping about his A/C.. He said they took all the mechanics from the Ocala yard to DOT future trucks... and now no one is there to fix his ac and they won't allow him to go anywhere else.. He never said he needed it for a dot.. BTW at Landstar a more substantial company than Greatwide or Swift.. You don't go the THEIR mechanic for a DOT inspection.. You go to an off site inspection site and they have alot higher hiring standards than either Greatwide or Swift

Oh and Greatwide does have company drivers so your statement he can take it wherever he wants to get it fixed is probably 100% incorrect... You are correct that they(greatwide or any company) couldn't care less about driver comforts.. that is very true..

Swift won't be leasing on any Greatwide company equipment. If the guy is trying to lease on to Swift, he is O/O.

The mechanics are still there. They have been tasked with inspecting outside trucks for compliance to Swift's standards and may have gone for training to do so. They are simply not available at this point to do nonessential repairs. Therefore, if the guy wants his A/C fixed, he'll have to take it to an outside shop. The assertion that Swift won't let him do so is false.

I hope I've cleared up what I was trying to say.

I'm glad you're happy at Landstar. I wouldn't work for them if they were one of three choices and Werner or JB Hunt were the other two.

    Cheers!

He never said he was trying to lease anything on.. He said he couldn't get his A/C fixed due to the fact that all the at the Ocala yard were doing qualification dots on new leases.and they wouldnt allow him to go to another shop sounds like a company driver or his friends story is a fib....Greatwide doesn't have mechanics in Ocala... and why would GW mechanics be inspecting Swift lease equip.. Does the original poster and his buddy work for Swift already.. Sounds like it.. But not sure.

I misread the O/P. I originally read it to say the friend was a Greatwide operator trying to get his A/C fixed. Then, didn't go back and review it. My bad.

Rug used to be a Swifty. He has moved on to running local gasoline tankers....I think. At any rate, he is no longer with Swift.

As for the buddy, how about getting a load to Decatur and getting it fixed there? Or Memphis....or Greer....or Richmond....? Regarding Swift company guys at Walmart DCs...don't hear any of them at this DC complaining about the money. They seem pretty happy with it. Just sayin.

Company drivers won't get that kind of mileage. They save those loads for the L/Os or O/Os that are on the account. There will be a few company drivers that will run long loads, but most may be because all the O/Os-L/Os are already planned up or some other reason.

With Swifts idling policy, I would expect it be tough for company drivers to do this account; especially in fl where it is hotter than heck. I expect a lot of o/o's will do team just like the Target dc in Lake City FL. I believe the other DC that Swift will be contracting out of is Winter Haven FL. In FL Brooksville, Alachua, and Ft. Pierce are dry goods only whereas Arcadia and Winterhaven are grocery DC's. Greatwide was reefer per my chat with a GW driver.

Not really, sir. Remember that the majority of the time the driver will be inside during the unloading process so there is no reason for the truck to be idling.
