Mack and Wifey, you guys are right. Self-insured outfits don't have to concern themselves with higher insurance premiums imposed on newbies, so going with the inexperienced greenies would make economic sense. This is because those guys are more naive and don't really know what a good wage is or what they will be expected to give their new companies in return for that supposedly good wage. More often than not, the greenies will accept chicken feed for pay, while the vets won't. Plus naive greenies will accept all kinds of screw-jobs, while vets know better and won't.

didnt they say that they would hire you even though you had to be with someone for two weeks im not here to berate you or anything like that and i hear what you are saying but all im saying is sometimes we have to do things to get our feet back in the door by the way what else do you expect from swift going there was your first mistake and now they are gonna put on your dac that you walked out in orientation and this isnt going to help you for someone else to take you on either so i wish you luck in this modern age of trucking and blackballing drivers with your dac fido

they think they will put anything on there and they have another thing coming. Not even 2 hours after I left, my attorney called them and reminded them how UNprofessional it is to put false statements on a DAC report as well as I didn't walk out. It was mutually agreed on that I left. I said I was leaving and they said ok. see, agreed on. HHAHAHAHHA. As for a mentor, you say we all have things we must do to get back in the door, ok here is a situation for you, lets see what you think.
they put me in with a kid who just got his cdl, only been driving for 30 some days. now he is my trainer, i do most of the driving of course, he gets paid for it as usual. Ok now the good part, I am sleeping in my bunk, been there for say 6 hours, we are in ohio and he gets into the lake effect snow storm, he is ####y, he thinks he is a mega trucker now, he knows he never drove in this and I have, does he wake his trainee up and say hey, I havent done this, no, he doesnt, he keeps going, as he drives he gets ####y, before you know it, the truck is rolled, I am dead and my kids now have no father, no way to pay for college, and my son gets to do the thanksgiving football games alone and all the trimmings that come with it. Now my question to you, would you like to be the one who goes to my family and to say you put me with a kid and the kid's ####yness got me killed. i dont think you would like to have that job. I will not be a ####y child trainers victim.
just like some of the guys in orientation who didnt understand mapping and logging very much, who are going out without a trainer, those guys are the 1st to get stopped and that is ok, like the others said on here, better that the BIG companies have a green driver than a experienced one.

i hear what your saying but all im saying is we all have to do things we dont want to do to get to where we want to go im sure they would have found a driver more your age to drive with on your refresher if you gave them time to find you one sometimes the older drivers likes someone every now and then to talk to on the road with a big company like swift i bet they would have alot of older drivers more of what you were looking for well best of luck fido

here is bubbas update on what is going on with bubba.
i went to a local company yesterday, interviewed with the company owner, who also owns several other terminals in other states. he was upfront with me and told me all about what i would be doing and where i would run. I am home twice a week and on weekends. I will run very regional and have to run in snow conditions. the money is very good. there is a 98% chance I will get that position.
After I had left, another company had contacted me. This again was a smaller company and they had offerd 48 state run, again, the money is very good and there is a 98% I can get into that one. They run newer trucks than the first company who offerd a older truck but who cares, as long as it is safe.
So maybe JB Hunt and Swift pulled their crap with me so I can get into one of these two other companies. Who knows, I am not the type to believe in everything happens for a reason, but sure the timing was great, but I have to decide within the next couple of hours which company I would accept the offer from.
I would love to run 48 states, then again, the regional runs make more but I will be working the Northeast and be in the snow alot. There is NYC which I am not fond of, But who cares at 3AM once a week.
Ok It is 645AM, Friday morning and I am off to the 2nd company. It is some travel away but the truck is a take home. Any suggestions about which one you all would take would be appreciated. Do I go for home time twice a week for 1300 a week, run in the snow and nyc, or for the same money I run all over and be home whenever. Mind you, home time is NOT important to me. 1st company has an older truck, 2nd one has newer not over 2 yr old trucks. I dont want to base it on the age of trucks, as long as they are safe. I dont want to base it on NYC, cause it is only once a week. The snow is something I would rather not drive in and that is about the only difference I see when it comes to both companies. Other than the age of the trucks which should never be a factor.
Who knows, maybe with my luck both offers will fall through. I have no idea. Just an update from here. I am sure I will have to make a decision before end of business today.

If you honestly don't care about home time, I'd take the second job and run all over. Just keep in mind, do you have older parents or grown children that you may need to be home for if something were to happen to them? If so, the regional job might come in very handy for that. It really depends on your needs.
I'm glad you have a chance at two great jobs. Best of luck to you and enjoy whichever one you choose -
Bubba, I gotta agree my minipins, I would take the second job. But honestly bud, if you don't want to run in the snow, then maybe you need to change your scenery!
I grew up in Pittsburgh, so I feel your pain.
And good luck with the new job(s); hopefully the one you want will pan out. -
What snow are you guys talking about in New England ??? LOL... You get very used to it but still need to shut down sometimes like last nights storm here. Most guys where pulled over and parked which was a smart thing to do when its snowing 2-3 inches a hour! Best of luck with your company decision.

Insurance is also what requires you to go out with a trainer. The important factors for insurance companies are recent OTR experience and recently graduating from an accredited school. You don't have either, so unfortunately, even though in all logic you probably are 100 times better than this other guy, you have to go with a trainer.
But here's the bright side. Ever since 2005 a lot of things have changed in trucking, laws are different, law enforcement is different, roads are different. You can either look at it as them treating you like an idiot, or them helping make sure you don't have an accident. There would be big consequences if you did have an accident, so why not take every chance to have a safe career? I'm going through the same thing. I just graduated a 3rd party school and Schneider wants me to go through their school, along with people who don't have their CDL. It's the EXACT thing I just went though. I'm just going to look at it as easy time and making easy money and a way to reinforce what I've already learned.
