Still isnt enough to get me to change my opinion. Everybody wants to have 'off time'. Some have the desire to spend it with family. I have family, but not a 'wife and kids', which i think you're kinda thinking about. I spend Christmas with my sister and my folks for 3 days, and what a great time we had.

However, it is a part of the job a possible new employee knows about and has to accept it beforehand. Kinda like when I worked in the casino industry. I was told right away during the interview, that i would probably be working weekends and most holidays. Now if i had a serious problem with that, i should have never took the job, then went crying "how come i can never get a holiday or weekend off?" Being out for 7-10 days for an OTR driver is standard. If a possible new driver has a problem with 7-10 days (maybe even twice that), then s/he should look for another career.

dont get a job as an usher at a movie theater, be told during the interview "you cant ever see any movies here, on or off duty"...then wonder why you get asked to leave when you show up with your date on a friday night.

Spoken like a true rooky. In this buiness the missions is to deliver the load. No if ands or buts. No one wants you to run when it's unsafe. BUt it is your responsibility to notify your company as soon as you know that you will not del on time. If you do not. Then it IS your fault. Every company will see it that way. They keep freight by making sure it dels on time every time. If not the shipper finds some one who can. You may not like that but that is how it is in trucking.

After ready all the post here the lesson is clear for all drivers. In this tough economic times companies have the power. They will/are weeding out the sick, lame and lazy. (as we use to say in the Corps). There are to many drivers right now and carriers are using this time to get rid of bad drivers. The ones with any service failures, to many tickets, bad additudes, or just plan hard to get allong with. This includes #itch becuase you sit a day or two. With the way things are, if you want to keep on trucking you need to give it 110%. Do the best job you can and let them see that you are one of the best. otherwhise you might just find your way to the door.

Only the strong will servive this storm.:biggrin_25525:
