I don't know the exact figures, but I have heard that close to 50% of all drivers operating OTR have less than 2 years of driving experience. Worse yet most don't know how to properly install chains, or worse yet, can't see that chains are almost useless in pure ice. best to stay put. Years ago a carrier would take the time to show a new hire how to chain up. Guess how many do it today?

Hmmm because average age of truckers is 56 years old.

Most chains I see highway drivers carry are junk. Triple 8mm Trygg or nothing IMO.

Not gonna lie I been driving less then 2 year I think never had to chain before and haven't even seen a tire chain just hope if I ever got to all it take is little common sense to figure out and a little extra time but we hit that bump when it comes

There it is driver. A little common sense. #1: chain up before you need to.
#2: you can never put on too many chains.
    #3: Have good winter gear/clothes.

No little chief in big desk deep inside Swift is going to dictate how I run that truck. If they don't want a professional inside that truck making decisions then they need to fire me and buy robots.

If you have chains, or access to some, then practice putting them on when you are in more temperate weather. At roadside in driving snow is no time to have to figure out how to do it.

If its bad enough to use chains, then its better to just park it. Chains are only meant to get you safely off the road and parked. Its not meant to roll on. No load is worth a life, dont give a darn what a dumb desk jockey or super trucker says.
