I have taken note of some very interesting comments made in this thread and to be honest most make some good sense. I think we should also expand this subject a bit. If you are having a heart attack would you expect the ambulance to come to help you? Would you or your family accept a well the weather was bad argument? I have thought about this since this thread was created. Honestly, I had much rather drive 100 miles across snow and ice-covered roads in say Canada then that same 100 miles in the Atlanta Georgia area in those same conditions. In Canada, they have much more experience with clearing roads and the drivers do it much more. This is why 2 inches of snow can paralyze Atlanta but is not much of a problem for most of Canada. When I was an active driver I made my go no go decisions based on my location, type of hazards and the customer. This topic goes back to most all trucking subjects. There is no one size fits all solution. The skills level of a 20+ year veteran driver and a 6-month wonder are vastly different. Bottom line? NEVER allow yourself to be bullied into operating above your comfort level.
