My husband will begin his CDL training with Swift and then he will be going out with a trainer as per the usual. Then, I will be traveling around with him for a long time, as we won't have a home :D. We asked tons of questions from other trucking families and I'm sure I can do this. But I have one question that maybe someone who actually works for Swift could answer...those mattresses, in the sleeper cabs...when my husband gets his own truck, will they provide new mattresses for the cabs, cause for real....I don't want a used mattress lol! What is the size of the top and bottom bunks in the trucks? I will FOR REAL buy our own mattresses if I have to. I'll bathe in a bucket, I'll potty in a portable toilet, I'll sleep in a Walmart parking lot, I'll eat crackers for 10 days straight...but no funky mattresses!

I didn't drive for Swift, but most truck bunks are the same and if you get a top and bottom bunk they are full size, the size below a twin. My wife rode with me for two years. We didnt have top bunk, had to sleep head to toe.

I believe Swift replaces the mattresses between drivers.

That said, the stock mattress is pretty cheap. May want to upgrade as soon as you can anyway.

Insist on a new mattress, they have piles of them and it costs them next to nothing to keep you happy. If they don't do it, you just learned everything you need to know about Swift. And two inches of memory foam on top does wonders, btw.

It will probably have a new mattress. If it doesn't. just ask the shop and they will give you one. Swift got sued once for bed bugs and does not quibble about new mattresses.

We usually asked for new matresses which are provided from dealer stock on demand first day of hire after you get into your assigned tractor and find that piss bottle sitting behind the cabinet in that sleeper.

The first couple of days involves getting that previous driver and his or her dna etc out of that rig. That's 10% bleach solution and a barrel of shop towels to start off....

You do not move a inch or hook onto anything without a new matress. It is literally a sort of promise that you will stick around long enough to make them some money to pay that thing. Or they will take it out of your pay LOL.

There are certain... icky stuff around tractors in the industry, I say this. It's your new office and your new home. Make it yours. Need a matress or two? Get em. Someone in the shop will make it happen. Want a new drivers seat? Have that too. Etc.

But don't go too crazy. if they start mule digging in on you, back off the new stuff a little bit.

I know they give drivers a new mattress without question. Do they do the same for a rider though?
Also, what is Swifts policy on long term riders? I know they require the extra insurance, but do they have a time limit?

No they don't. Swift doesn't spend any money unless they have too.

Consider yourself lucky if they clean the truck before they hand the roach coach over. They used to never do that at all, but then they got in the habit of hiring lowlifes that live like bums and have the truck to show it.

You can ask for a new mattress, you may get it, but don't expect it. Not to discourage you from asking, I am just telling you how Swift is.

I have driven many a Swift truck that are so funkified that I had to keep the windows and vents open in a rain storm to survive.

If I went over the road. I'd want to put a good mattress in there. My personal love is; Beautyrest. Can get the cheapest Beautyrest at wallyworld. It's still a better mattress. I have one of those.
I did work out of town alot. Getting good rest on a bed you really love is very important.
