I haven't made, or read, any comments in this thread that should lead to that conclusion.

Many of you are okay with the dog being put down even though it hasn't done anything wrong. #### man....it's paper logs are in order.

Im far from ok with it.I think its a cold blooded sin whats going to happen to this dog.She was in her house minding her own business.I do think they should give him time to find a good home for Sophie rather then just kill her.

You're missing the point that several people (including myself) are making. This situation was 100% preventable. A responsible pet owner wouldn't have found themself in this position. A responsible pit bull owner would have checked local ordinances prior to taking their home time in that city. He/she would also have ensured that their animal was properly secured....for their animals safety.

I volunteered at two animal shelters (one was public run and the other was private run). I think it's terrible whenever an animal has to be put down. The simple fact is that many animals are put down due to their master failing them. I.e. This guy.

    Edit: typo.

No, the dog got out of the house and was roaming the streets.
It was then reported to officials, who took action.

It is not cold blooded, or a sin.
It is a community watching out for its own before something bad happens.

For all of you fighting against the decision, what would you be saying if that dog attacked a child while it was loose?
    I can just imagine...

It isn't just that, I am sure he was well aware of the bylaw.

From the linked article in the op:

4-kids, 1- grey wolf Shepard hybrid, 3 pitties and zero dog bites, lol. Forgot to mention the 4 kids don’t bite either, and even the 8yr old lacks the arrogance you see in a lot of adults these days! Proud of them all!

Owners of biting dogs, and parents of screwed up kids should be the ones paying the consequences!

Too bad about the dog, but some folks are afraid of dogs, so it aint right to allow the dog to run in the streets. If the dog never bit anyone, then they should at least allow someone to adopt the dog.

All these new ****** up laws are ridiculous! Wont be long and when a kid turns 18 the feds will just throw them straight in prison to prevent them from possibly breaking the law!

Its not that the ban in more places than just there on PIT BULLS just popped up 700 Cities in the USA as well as all ARMED FORCES BASES have banned them , and regardless of how cute they look the cuteness of a lot of children was destroyed when attacked by a pit bull. Like this 1 a few days ago http://q13fox.com/2015/04/02/mother-defends-her-actions-after-pet-dog-mauls-son/ it was cute and cuddly :(

In the 10-year period from 2005 to 2014, pit bulls killed 203 Americans and accounted for 62% of the total recorded animal related deaths (326). Combined, pit bulls and rottweilers accounted for 74% of these deaths.

Well there you go. He's the stereotypical pit bull owner.

I've had dogs throughout my life including raising 5 seeing eye dogs. But sometimes being a good owner means recognizing that you aren't a good fit for your dog: we had to give away a cattle dog (the only of our dogs to ever get loose) because it wasn't fair to the super-smart high-energy dog to keep him cooped up in the suburbs.

In all my time around dogs, I've only had 2 bad encounters and both were with pit bulls. Once I was attacked completely unprovoked (fending her off with a backback full of text books). And the other a dog of mine was attacked at a dog park (I pepper-sprayed the attacking pit until the owner realized what was happening and took control of his animal).

I know most pit bulls are sweethearts and loyal and their owners swear their precious little angels would never do anything. I also know that breed has been bred to promote aggression and that many of the news stories of pit bull attacks involved dogs doing something so out of character that their owners are legitimately shocked. If you're going to own an animal like that (including the new rage -- Cane Corso's) you have an absolute responsibility to ensure you keep everyone safe.

And finally, it probably isn't fair to the dog to keep a pit bull cooped up in a rolling walk-in closet for 23 hours/day (and that goes for most breeds).

It is a shame the animal is paying the price for the selfishness of the owner, but this is a breed that has earned no tolerance.
