A little background...Started at, Swift Trans. driving academy(Lewiston Id.), in late November 2012 and attended orientation in early January(due to the holidays.) As for all the Super Trucking Rambo's out there!! This is my account for what I've experiened and NO...I'm not a Recruiter.
First week: HELL...arrived on a Sunday, had my wife drop me off...yes was fortunate to live close enough to drive, but far enough to stay. Met my roomate, who was on his last week there....was not sure how that was going to work out, but we kind of cliqued. First day....all paper work and DOT exams for those who did not have there's already done. Second day until Friday...classroom and straight-line backing...I was going to seriously...kill myself or quit and go home. They have a policy..."If you want out, you can quit by the first Friday and not owe anything."
Second week: Obviously I decided to stay...Learned 90 degree alley dock, offset, shifting and much more (was glad I stayed). By this time I became a master of Microwave cooking.
Third week: Driving....Driving...Driving. You will also go back to the backing range...when available(other classes going) and pre-trip.
It was honestly, a great experience. Learned about myself...classmates...trucking( not near all)...and life.
Orientation: Easy, Easier(If your a Swift Academy Graduate). Honestly, I learned a lot more from Swift's driving academy, then most(Sage, System, CR England(Sorry).
All in all...It's you who makes it work...good or bad. Stay positive and do whats right. Don't listen to some of these Super Trucking Moron's....that want to lead you in the wrong direction. Good luck to all....fellow... Newbies

Welcome to the road. I finished the Lewiston Academy in late October. I've tried to keep a thread updated about the adventure since I started. Good luck with your mentor.

I've heard good things about Swift's school but really I'm having a terrible time with the company itself. Unlike most starter companies that'll drop their pants for you, Swift fires people right and left so be aware of that. I had to go to the hospital this past week for a relatively common viral infection. I was treated with low grade, temporary use medication and sent on my way. Swift, however, saw fit to request another DOT physical (just gave them one a month ago) and a four page medical release at my own expense. When I told them I needed a few days to find a doctor (don't have one, or insurance yet), they terminated my employment. I'd honestly advise against such a ###### company but really thats just me...
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Doesn't Watkins & Shepard have a terminal in Las Vegas? Try them. Maybe Panther Expedite also. -
Sorry to hear that...best of luck to you though.

I read your thread and it was really helpful. How long did you wait for a mentor?
