I have some questions about the Swift employment application as it is poorly crafted:
(1) Have you ever been denied a license, permit or privilege to operate a motor vehicle?
(2) Has your motor vehicle operator's license, permit or privilege ever been suspended or revoked?
What is the difference between these two questions?
I had my license suspended for too many points/speeding tickets 20 years ago.
So the answer to #2 would be yes.
#1 seems to me to be the same question.... If my license has been suspended, I was therefore denied a privilege to operate a motor vehicle.
Why the repetition?
What is #1 asking and is the answer also yes?
(3) Have you ever been stopped while intoxicated?
(4) Have you ever been convicted for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs?
I was convicted of DWAI - "Driving While Ability Impaired" - that is BAC of .04 - .07, twenty years ago.
So that is not DUI "driving under the influence" - BAC .08+.
I will list the conviction under misdemeanor, but technically the answer to both is no.
How should I answer 3 and 4?
(5) Have you ever been convicted for possession, sale, or use of narcotic drugs?
Narcotic drugs are specifically classified as opiate derivatives (herion etc.)
Marijuana is not a narcotic - but a lot of people use 'narcotic' to describe all illegal drugs.
So a 20 year old pot possession charge should mean answering no.
It will get listed under misdemeanors though.
How should this be answered?
I have no other offenses and haven't had even a speeding ticket in over 14 years.
Will these 20 year old and relatively modest offenses give me problems getting hired?
Thanks for any help and clarification!

Concerning the narcotics and DUI questions, I would call your recruiter and ask him/her. -
I had 2 license suspensions. One in '82 or '83. And one in '90. Screw ups of the state not my fault. Suspensions none the less. I always include that on any driving app.
Put down the truth and let them make their choice. If they reject you move on.
Or get those things sealed or closed out. Fact is check your MVR yourself. Some states drop the DUI info after 10-15 years. Florida doesn't 75yrs! -
No matter how old or obscure it may seem put it on your application.
The last thing you need is them to find it, think you were hiding something and then fire you on the spot .... wherever that spot might be.
YMMVTexas-Nana Thanks this.
