    Hi everyone,
I have read a couple of the Swift flat bed posts, but I still have a couple of questions.

    1. Where do you guys mainly run? I live in Columbus Ohio about 10 minutes from the Swift terminal and I see Swift trucks all day every day, but I have never seen a Swift flat bed truck other than in pictures.

    2. How would you rate their flat bed training and equipment?

    3. Is tarping pretty much random, or do you tarp alot? What percentage would you say, or does it vary too much to say?

    4. What are your slow times of the year? I assume a couple of winter months, but I don't know for sure.

    5. Is there any special equipment you recommend a newbie gets before starting out in flat bed?

    6. I assume you need steel toe boots, how about other PPE?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for any repeat questions.

I'm not a flatbedder, but I have been security at many places that load flatbeds. as far as your PPE goes, get yourself a GOOD hard hat and pair of safety glasses, both for your own protection, and there are some places, that won't let you around where they're loading or even into the plant with out them, and the loaners they have are beat up and wore out

I used to run Swift flatbed so I give it a shot.

Swift used to have 3 flatbed terminals, Phoenix, Gary, IN, & Greer, SC. I "heard" that Greer is no longer a FB terminal. A common route is referred to as the "Laredo triangle", Laredo, TX to the Carolinas, then the Great Lakes area, and back to Laredo. They also have a smaller-less defined triangle out west, Phoenix-California-Oregon.

The equipment in OK, not great. Training is good. I see fewer Swift FB drivers making big mistakes (with regard to load securement) than a lot of other companies.

Swift tarps WAY more than necessary. Swift also has customers who require tarping regardless of the product.

I never drove flat bed, but client I delivered to had me wear a bright pink HH with a bright green vest. Funniest thing ever!
