Incorrect. Official languages of Canada are English and French. Quebec does their own thing, and the official language is French only. This means that items which fall under provincial jurisdiction (ie: highway signage, law enforcement, DOT) need be served in French only.

I'll ignore your derogatory and bigoted use of 'frog' as I don't enjoy wrestling with pigs in the mud.

And also, it's: "that's their failing not yours" not "that's there failing not yours". Perhaps you could do with some English lessons yourself.

The pot calling the kettle black....is the old term used for this situation/example!

Sir, your use of English grammar and punctuation could use a little "tweaking" itself!

    1. Never begin a sentence with a preposition....."And"....
    2. The correct, truly correct form of the phrase you wish to find fault in is:
    "that's their failing, not yours!"

Please note the red corrections to the phrase in question. If one must revert to attacking spelling, grammar, and punctuation....at least be correct in your correction!:biggrin_2558:

    1. 'And' is not a preposition, it is a conjunction, and any contention that you may not begin a sentence with one is an elementary school fallacy. See: http://www.dailywritingtips.com/can-you-start-sentences-with-“and”-and-“but”/

    2. You are correct, the comma should have been included, but the exclamation is optional depending on the tone you wish to convey. The original period, which I did not quote, is entirely correct.

I am not generally a grammar/spelling nazi, but rather I was trying to point out the irony of such poor English skills in a thread where the language is being championed.

"And" can be either...conjunction or preposition...depending on its use in the sentence. Not an elementary school fallacy...the "new, modern" application that falls into the "new" acceptable words/phrases (certain 4 letter words, and regional "euphemisms") that have been changed due to our wonderful public school debauchery! "and" is an unnecessary word to begin a new sentence or a change in topic, or a deviance of original topic.

    For your #2....thank you!

The grammar/spelling in this thread was not the topic...the "language" (English, French, Spanish) is/was. You were correct, and would have been better suited, by halting with your opening correction....the "accepted/standard"...language used in Quebec. The corrections after that was my issue.:biggrin_25514:

I disagree, but even if I stipulate it can be used as both I was clearly using the word as a conjunction. Can you kindly write me a sentence using 'and' as a preposition?

If I stipulate the word is 'unnecessary', that does not mean it is grammatically incorrect. If we omitted all unnecessary words we might as well just txt msg each other.

If you really insist, I'm sure I can find examples from many classic works of English literature which have sentences beginning with 'and'. Surely you would agree that these authors would be a higher authority on English than you or I?

And yes, I should have left it be, but again, I was attempting to point out some irony, not give an English lesson. :)

I'm just running out the door now, but it's been fun debating with you :)
