Swift...... I enjoy my job

this is one of the reasons i'll NEVER (well never say never) lease a truck thru swift. You end up making $50+ more being a lease/operator (not a true O/O) and for what? I've got no problem working hard, grinding it out, and feeling good about myself for putting in a good hard weeks worth of work. But the risk just isnt worth it. and "risk" should be part of anyones business mindset. just my 2 cents worth there....

I had a T-call one night in Edwardsville...dropped off the paperwork, and then asked if there was anything i could take tomorrow morning. And she said "there sure is"....and handed me a 104 mi run that nobody would take. I said, "sure..i'll take it" then the planner i'm bud's with saw i took the load, and said he'd stack me up. I ended up with a run to Morris, IL. to the costco there, THEN got a 500mi reefer run out of there (which most if not all are round trips) So i ended up with 1000mi+ in loads just for taking a 100 mi run nobody wanted.

You are totally correct about planners seeing a driver turning down load after load. They will end up making them sit. Never did understand drivers who would want to sit. Kinda funny, cause they think they're going to get the $50 "layover pay", when they don't. (they dont, because they were planned on a load. you dont get layover unless you sit 24hrs without seeing a PP) and even if they DO happen to get it....you get $50 a day....rather than run 150 mi run to earn the same money. I'd rather be doing something to earn my money than sit.

 

actually, it is not. You are a LEASE/OPERATOR, you are not a true O/O. And it is pretty simple to find out. Take a look at the title for the truck (if it is on the truck) then look at it very carefully. You lease the truck from IEL? problably. Who's name is on the title....theirs. Is your name on it anywhere? Nope. If you were a true O/O, your name would be on the truck as 'owner' and IEL would be listed as the lean-holder.

But the poster was right when talking about your true costs. Now you have to come up with your own insurance...and if you're lucky..will run you $100 a week. if you're not putting away .15cpm for maintence (which by the way, swift can dip into at anytime...basicly ROBBING YOU) you're setting yourself up for a HUGE maintence bill, and not being able to cover it. Swift will do it for ya....but they'll take it out of your next few checks, AND slap ya with a 'service fee'.

Lest not forget, after you pay out the nose $500/wk for 208 weeks, you're STILL faced with a $50,000 balloon...which swift will NOT finance. How do i know all this? I've spoken to Paula in Greer about what exactly the lease covers, and doesnt cover. I've seen 2 drafts of the lease agreement, and have read it cover to cover. Most if not all the lease trucks have the $50k balloon. Why? Because swift knows you cannot make the payment, and they'll get the truck back. So they can lease it to anothe sucker.

p.s. there are a few 'outright purchase' trucks. they are '05 columbias with a zillion miles on it. They're selling for $20k. you pay something like $400wk for 52 wks, and its yours. But then you dont get any warranty, you dont know just how hard/bad the previous 50 drivers drove it. Thats why i wont touch one of those.

 

Dick it's not funny and it's wrong. It's a violation of another person's privacy. If your "friend" does it for you......I hope he gets caught and fired. And if I ever find out who your "friend" is......I'll report his butt.

So I tried to show you how easy it is to accuse someone. You don't like it do you? So stop doing it to others.

You don't know what they're running or what they're earning.

As for me.......I don't really care what you've done in your life or what you're doing now. I worked for my Daddy too.......so what. You won't say who you run for, what miles you're getting nor anything other than slamming others. I don't discuss matters with people who only wish to insult others.
