Comfort zones are sections of the US. Swift has them set up so you can choose where in the country you want to run. Yes, it is still in effect, but there may be a waiting list depending on where you want to be. Your driver manager sets that up when you make a request.

How much could I realistically expect to make on average a week just coming out of school?

Anywhere from a negative to better than nothing depending on miles, advances, and your own personal taxes.

I'll try to be slightly more helpful. I came out of training in 2007. It starts out kind of slow, but my first month out I was putting $500/week into my personal bank account. That was after I left my mentor's truck. If you show you're willing to work, deliver on time and be safe, your loads will quickly improve. You will put your months in and work up the pay scale.

Thanks! Do you plan on staying with Swift? I am just wondering, I am prequalified to go with WSE after school but I came up with the money to pay for school myself, and the options are wide open. Just trying to decide on a company I can start and stay with.
    Thanks for your help.

Beats what I do right now:

    8.75 x 20 hours - taxes = 131.25 or 6,825 dollars a year.
20-30k starting would be a godsend right now. Even at 60-80 hours a week, I would take it.

I know at the same payrate, same hours, i would do comparable where I am but i hate my job, the hours are not there and they treat me like crap, I made the same promise to the lord you did, and ....its starting to look like swift might take me on too so... :):biggrin_25514::biggrin_25514:

as far as your post about what comfort zones are....they are okay. I was on the "910", which is basicly the midwest to east coast, but nothing in New York state or the new england states. Only down side i could find, is that you kinda handcuff yourself on what loads are available to ya. If you drove 'all 48', you might get a load from Richmond, VA to Nevada. But if you were sitting in Richmond, you wouldn't get that load, because you were on the "910". (unless they wanted you to take the load and drop it off at a terminal (T-call) )

Now as far as the quote above.....

Just coming out of a school...i'm going to assume you went to a swift school. Honestly, i would not expect to get no more than 1500 mi your first week. Your DM will kinda 'break you in' in the first week or two. NOW, after that....your miles will pick up. But honestly, dont plan on a take home check of more than $250-300 for the first few weeks.

it wasnt till i started raising a fit after my 2nd and 3rd week that i got the miles i needed to make a $400-500 check. You cannot go by someones figures when they figure out how many hours they worked, and how much they got paid, then come up with a 'hourly rate' like you'd have at a regular job where you punch in and out. Why can't you figure it like that?? Because for me...when i leave the house, and hit the road....i'm on the clock...and my clock dont stop till i'm home again. Even though i'm sleeping in the back....i'm still "working" cause i'm not at home. I'd HATE to see what my hourly rate is. Probably like $1.25 an hour.....HAHAHHA
