thanks for the info

I myself don't have anything bad to say about Swift. I worked for their flatbed division for 8 months, then went to Melton.
I can say that at Swift, the pay was a bit low, but I had to start over somewhere after taking a 8 year break from driving.
As for a company to avoid, that would be Covenant Transport. I did a search for bad reports about them, found tons, not to mention actually seeing a bad event happen in a truck stop.
But that is another story for another time.
So, for a starter company, Swift is not bad IMHO.

I hope you didn't go to Stevens, they are the worst of any company out there. -
Nope, went with Swift.

Yeah, whatever you do after your training, don't get talked into buying a truck through their Fleece Purchase program, with freight being slow you'll be sorry you ever signed your name on the dotted line. -
Why is everybody saying swift is trying to get you to lease a truck, I went to swift school and 6 weeks with a Mentor (by the way a o/o) but nobody at all ever ask me or told me to lease a truck by Swift. Another thing I think it is amazing how many people know something about Swift even though they have never work for them, it would be helpfull for everybody if you guys would only say something about a company when you know its true and not something what some friend has told you who has a cosin who has a friend who has talked to a guy who got fired by Swift.

Not going to buy a truck until my son has left the nest. So looking at getting one in about 16 years. Then I will get one and me and the wife will travel the USofA untill retirement.

Ofcource its all tenative don't know what will happen between now and then, may not even be driving anymore. -
Hay guys just wanted to update. I'm on my third week of training and been very bussy running every place from Fl to dallas to kansas to n carolina to utah you name it I finally taking a little break in n caro but I have been running allover the place I love the west virginia mountains I can wait to see the ones in the northwest they tell me their a lot of fun yeah right. Well hope everybody is running good and safe and as far as having to wait for a truck I just seen a guy finish his 6 weeks and pass the test and got a truck the sameday so I don't know what some people are saying about waiting for a truck. Be Safe and on time and keep the wheels turning.

Because you don't even qualify for a lease purchase program until 8 months after OTR.
Personally, I haven't had anyone approach me about it either, and I wouldn't do it even if I were asked. Those guys are getting miles though, as one of my closest friends in the company is a lease operator and he and his wife team drive.
