Something I forgot to mention. If you have a Love's Truck Stop, Pilot, Flying J, or Travel America, near your home, go down and get a loyalty card. I think the TA once has to be signed up for online. If you can't get them before you start, ask you mentor how to get them. You can earn showers when you fuel. With the pilot card, if you are a team you can ask them to turn one shower into two and it doesn't cost you anything. You also earn one penny per $ of fuel you put in the truck. You can use the points to spend like money. I've got over 2k points already. They add up fast and may come in handy if you need and inverter or cb radio. It's basically free money for you when Swift buys fuel.

I was thinking about the food aspect today. I was considering some beef jerky in the resealable package, maybe some premaid peanut butter sandwiches and possibly cold cuts if there is fridge to use.

I've already been stocking up on the little 4-packs of Colgate "Wisp" Optic White disposable toothbrush thingys they sell at the $1 store. I tried a couple already and they seem ok. Not the same as regular brushing but better than nothing and they don't take up much space.

Funny, I was thinking about the same thing with the audio books and language tapes. What a good way to learn something new. Not sure if I would have to wait tho until I go solo since the mentor might not want to hear Tagalog or Mandarin Chinese all day.

I think I'm starting to look forward to this new pay rate. Sounds like a good idea and gives the incentive to the mentor to give you more drive time since they make the same cpm regardless. Plus they make that extra $.01 for your miles afterwards.

So, if you are half way done right now, how many days has it been since you left with your mentor?

I got on the truck Nov. 26th. I've got 150 hours tonight. We are pushing to try an get me done right about Christmas. We had already planned on being gone over the holiday. I'm sure I'll have at least one more reset and perhaps will lose a day getting the truck services.

I really changed the way I got food this last stop. I was able to go to Walmart. I picked up tuna packets, crackers, protein, lunch meat, and cheese, instant brown rice, and some apples. It will be a lot healthier than eating at the truck stop salmonella incubator.

We're headed back to GA. tonight and perhaps on to Memphis.

You got it...almost. We're stuck in Greer, SC for an oil change. We pushed as far as we could and got shut down. We had a load on and it got T called. We had another load offer that picked up where we were going to deliver. It looks like I have about ten more days to go before I can finish. That includes another reset.

i took my mid term test today. It was really easy. I didn't miss anything. Even the questions about the Qualcomm were easy. My mentor said that some folks have a hard time with it. If they did then they weren't paying much attention.

Had my roughest back up yet. It was at a yard where you started on pavement and backed off into uneven ground. You ended up with the tractor and the trailer being influenced by the sharp drop off of the pavement. I finally got after much cursing.

Practice the ally dock as often as you can.

We've been stuck at the Greer, SC. terminal for 24 hours. We came in for a B service. They decided to replace the Qualcomm and the made us have the windshield replaced. There were two very small chips. As a cop I had way worse windshield damage. There was no degradation of vision. I'm not sure why this happened. Oh well, because I'm hourly I'm getting paid to sit here.

On another note. My prayers go out to the families at the school shooting.

Back on the road. We dropped a load up near Chicago, picking another up and headed for CA. If things keep up I'll be done Christmas day.

Saw my second pay stub today. I took home $451. I had a reset in there so I'm not disappointed.

I haven't been posting much lately. I've been trying to kick out the last hours of my training and driving 10+ hours a day. I should be done Christmas day. That doesn't do me much good as there won't be anyone in Lewiston to give me the driving test or issue me a truck.

Lots of snow in WY and UT last night. There were trucks all over the place and a few of them were Swift.

So, Im trying to get the timeline down correctly.

You were in Lewiston in training for 19 days or so then you immediately went to orientation in Lewiston for 3 days? Was there any gap between the training and orientation? What was the gap between you finishing orientation and the first day driving with your mentor?

I would rather hear from someone that has recently gone through this rather than hear it from my recruiter. Im getting a little nervous reading these stories from others about waiting for days or even a week between orientation and going out on the road with a mentor.
