Some people have done great write ups on the day-to-day life of going to school so I won't get into all that. But I did want to mention that Veteran's don't have to pay for school at all as long as they work for Swift for one year e.g. no money is taken out of your weekly check and you obligation lasts for one year. The normal program takes $75 from your weekly paycheck for one year, and reimburses $37.50 per week for two years. The motel comes out to another $500. I'm not exactly sure on the math but I think they take a bit over $20 per week for 21 weeks. The motel money isn't reimbursed but again is not taken out of your check if you are a veteran.

Other that that, things are going well. I'm in my second week and evaluations are beginning. The hours are long, but starting to get a decent feel for the trucks.

Is this just a Vetern thing or are you applying the GI Bill? My husband went through Swift as a vertern and got the schooling at a reduce rate, but since his service was so long ago the GI Bill didn't apply. That said like most he had planned to do at least a year to get his rookie days in. Years later.... he is still out there.... If you live close enough to any school to drive in each day a motel fee won't be charged as you aren't using the motel service. You could also concievably live with friends or family get bettr food and maybe a private room staying away from their motel option. Although it's not bad just home is always better.

Yes veterans do not have to pay a dime for the academy if you stay with swift for a year. They don't take any payments out of my checks for the academy. No GI bill neccessary.
