I'm a new driver right out of school. I was called by swift and offered the chance to attend orientation later this month in Jonestown PA for a NE regional position.
I understand that larger is not necessarily better and that Swift tends to have a reputation but I am just glad to have a possible job after several months of unemployment and I feel safe working for a larger carrier right now as someone with zero professional experience thus far.
Is my sense of security misplaced? I don't mind spending some time on the road as I don't have a family or anything very crucial tying me down on a weekly basis and my life isn't exactly a very expensive life so as long as the pay is RESPECTABLE what should I expect for my upcoming year as a new driver with swift should I choose to accept the position?
What can be said about beginning your career as a NE regional driver for swift right out of school?
Swift NE regional. Will I have a good 2012?

sorry dad. -
Give it a chance, put in a year with no incidents, do your best and if you don't like it, move on.
(Add) To answer the question, you will probably have a better 2012 than 2011 if you've been unemployed for so long. Some money is better than no money and money you earned yourself is better than money you took from the guv'mint. Just sayin. -
Assuming I have a good first few months and they are not afraid to give me the miles, what kind of weekly mileage can I expect?
Really I should ask what life will be like in general driving regional for swift as a new driver will be like for the first few months. Miles? Pay? Hometime?Last edited: Jan 6, 2012

So I should expect the money to be pretty much crap. Is otr the only way to make money?
What sort of home time can you expect with regional dedicated? -
Do you live close to a terminal?
