Swift - New Pay Scale complete details

I wonder if they are feeling generous .
the dedicated acct I am on just got a .03 increase.

So with 9 months I am at .41 wooohooo... lol

 

All companies are reviewing their pay plans because drivers are getting harder to find. Some are doing away with sliding scales altogether.

 

Didn't Swifts sliding payscale end at 300 miles before?

 

How much more would be forFlatbed? How much do thry pay for Tarp?

 

If they want to keep drivers they better do something . Some of them pay absolute garbage. .

 

You do better with a sliding pay scale. US XPRESS claimed they got rid of it because it was confusing drivers. Really? If you're going to run a 250 mile trip, would you rather get paid $.45 cents a mile, or your regular pay of .34 cents a mile?

Now, if you made .50 cents a mile for all miles, then I wouldn't mind getting rid of the sliding pay scale. For low pay companies, its better.

I appreciate all the input on the pay scale and comparisons. If it was ONLY about cpm, the industry would be easy to learn. Before making my decision to train with Swift and start a new career, I dug a lot deeper. How many miles can a company give me? How many opportunities are there for "extra" dollars in my paycheck? Will I stay busy during the industry's slow times? Does the carrier have consistent freight and thus routing to different areas or will I get stuck driving the same monotonous circuit? What perks are available? Is the company large enough to offer a cost effective benefits package? Will I be able to change DM's if needed? Can I move to a different part of the country and still drive for this company? These were just some of the questions I researched. I am comfortable with my decision to join Swift. Yes this present opinion could change as I've not progressed to the point of getting my class A plastic, but I'm very pleased so far.

 

Sliding payscales for OTR drivers are a scam that lets them claim to have a higher cpm rate. OTR drivers shouldn't have many runs under 500 miles. If they do, a higher cpm rate of only a couple cpm isn't going to fix the problem of doing short runs. USX's old scale went up to 900 miles, so it did play a little. The old swift plan at everything over 300 miles... who could argue that wasn't a scam to advertise higher cpm?

 

You're like a 22 year old girl and Swift is your abusive boyfriend, that makes you pay for dinners and gives you black eyes, but you know he really loves you... I'm not bashing Swift exactly. I did commend them for the huge effect this raise has had on the industry, and their own drivers obviously. That said, it's still not a great place to work. It's for people with bad records, and/or don't want to do any job hunting or research. There are dozens of large OTR companies that hire just about anybody, that are better than Swift, but people are lazy and just go to the first company that they've heard of. This site is supposed to be a place for drivers to help each other. That's what I'm doing. Your profile says student, so I'm assuming you haven't been on the road yet. Trust me, I used to be a little like you. Read this site quite a bit, asked questions, talked to other drivers, thought I was prepared. I talked to plenty of other drivers, heard the stories, people told me I had the right idea. Except I didn't. You don't know anything until you get out here, because you have to experience this job to understand it. You tell me if you think Swifts a great place to work when you're on the road for a month or 2 at a time, and maybe you're even doing ok getting 500 to 600 dollar paychecks. Wait until you've decided to stay out 2 whole months to make more money, and you get a recurring breakdown issue. If you don't know, that pretty much means you'll be out on the road, not making money. Yeah, you get your Breakdown pay, eventually, but it's not much. Wait till you see that you made 300 dollars for a week that you were on the road the whole time for. You find out real quick it's not worth it, and you had no idea what this job was going to be like. Your day working for Swift is going to be almost exactly the same as mine, except I'm going to be making a higher CPM and not getting paid HHG miles (meaning I get paid for nearly all my miles while HHG loses around 20 to 30 each load). I don't work for some exclusive, hard to get into carrier. It's one of the largest, near 6000 trucks. Good OTR jobs aren't hard to find.

And no, I don't call Swift drivers ####### when I see them, I just feel bad for them and wonder why they don't have the ambition or ability to drive for another carrier. When I see "Leased to" on their door, then I just laugh.
