Well that be a little difficult since most of us that are on here drive a different style truck with different engine. Basically all of us have a fixed weekly out go of around $700. This is the truck payment and all the ins. Add to that the fuel. Number of miles will be how much fuel. Use a basic figure of 2500/mi per week and divide by 7 mpg and use a $4/gal avg. That should give a pretty close average.

That may be the best approach for you ... Honestly,it's a lot easier to succeed as an O/O, if you "want" to be an O/O ... if you do it simply because you believe the money will be better, not say you won't succeed, but it will be more difficult on you.

New or used. There are even some that you can buy outright - it used to be the Columbias, but I heard they are using the Volvo's now.

Biggest expense is your fuel. Your contract has you giving up all discounts on it. SMART BUSINESS DECISION?

    :biggrin_25523:

AS A SOLO IF YOU ARE DOING $7-800 A WEEK? THAT IS GOBS MORE THAN YOU WILL WILL MAKE AS A SOLO L/O.

Do you share in the Swift fuel discount at PilotJ, Loves. TA, Petro like some companies do? Do you get money off the pump price? TA and Petro sell at a cost plus discount. Do you get that?

Yep. I get the cash discount, plus get to fuel where I want, and many times the mom and pop places that many times are .15-.25 off the major places.

The cash discount isn't $.15-.25 or more per gallon. Some companies offer that. Companies smaller than Swift. Just guessing Swift is getting substantially bigger discounts.

Remember when Swift sent out the message that they didn't want the L/O's and O/O's fueling at Loves? Tell me what that was all about! Awfully arrogant of them telling you where you can, and cannot fuel! (tried to treat you like a company driver.!)

I am guessing Love's wasn't giving a big enough discount to Swift at that time. You see..........this is another way they make money off the L/O's. Nothing wrong with making a profit, unless it's the lessee.

They control your freight. They can starve you any time they want. You get paid a straight rate. No percentage. You can't pick and chose your loads off a board that shows the rate+the fuel surcharge. Do they ever try to get you to run where you don't want to go? Claim there isn't any other freight in the area?

If you dead head to many miles can you lose your fuel surcharge? Do they offer you rates on a sliding scale? Offer you a "carrot" for taking a load you really don't want?

My former L/O mentor is a company driver right now and is paid a percentage of the load. $800-1400 a week with taxes taken out. Company man. 5 days a week. Why would he want to go back to fleasing?

Fuel is you biggest expense, you gave up the discounts in the contract.

Jerry Moyes wants 60% L/O's. Why? I just told you one of the biggest reasons.

500 gallons X $.15= $75 a week the company makes extra off you toil. I assure you the discount is much more than that. Multiply that by 8000 trucks.

You didn't answer this question. You are aware there is other discounts, right?

I did answer, I get the cash discount off the pump price. Also last count, there are not 8,000 leased trucks, only about 4,000. We can fuel anywhere that we want. Our choice. It has already been approved, we are going to a load/freight based board, as soon as it gets implements, which the word is per centage, and btw, since you seem to have such a hard on for Swift, why do you keep comming back here.
