I will copy a post that I made in another thread a couple of minutes ago because I think it can apply to your situation.

Forget about applying to companies online. Get off the couch and go see companies in your area. You'd be surprised how many might take a shot with a new grad. You can overcome and perceived negative with past issues by making a positive first impression and telling your story in person.

Remember to show up with a positive attitude and with a professional appearance. Looking at how some drivers dress these days, I wouldn't hire them to clean my septic, let alone drive my 200k plus truck/trailer and God knows how much in freight.

Think outside the box. Don't limit yourself to only those companies that accept online applications. It takes some effort, but since we are talking about a career, don't you feel it is worth it?

After all the negative posted about mainstream carriers on this forum, why anyone would drive for one boggles the mind.

Get off your chair and get off the internet. Show your happy face to some companies around your area and you might get lucky. Selling your soul to the Swifts, Prime's, Englands, etc, is NOT your only option.

You live in St Louis. It's a truckfest down there. If you have to sell your soul to the bottom feeders, you didn't try hard enough.

    *FYI*

With most companies you can actually make more driving a 24' box truck than you would driving a semi with a bottom feeder.

Have to agree with Ghostryder and elendil, why are those your two choices? There are over 450,000 trucking companies in the US! Why have you narrowed yourself down to those two? Your success will be substantially higher at a smaller company. Don't use the excuse that these are the only two companies that hire in experienced drivers. These are just two companies that make it easy peasy to get hired on! You want a good job, you are going to have to put forth some effort. If you are a settler then go with Swift or one of the other mega-carriers. Don't you find it odd that these companies have to spend millions of dollars in advertising to get YOU to work for THEM?! That should set off an alarm in your head!

Do your homework and you will reap the rewards. Settle for one of these companies and let the force be with you!
