I see a bunch of threads and questions asking about oreintation at swift, so I thought I would share my experience.
Day 1. You make sure all your paperwork is correct, ala your application, and if your dot medical was at a non approved swift place, or is more then 60 days old, you do another dot physical. You also do a drug test. Day 1, piece of cake.
Day 2. Get your driver manual that stays in the classroom, get the driver manual on cd, and three books, the orange, red and green books, tells you everything you need to know about hazmat, emergency stuff, and driver reference. They stay with you constantly. Talk about some stuff, watch some videos (im bitterly disappointed in the sexual harrasment video, I expected at least one boss to slap his secretary on the ### and say "good job toots", but thats me). Also had a chat with the DM, and some other stuff.
Day 3. More videos, a few other chats, talked to the one of the foreman from the garage, jesse, seemed like a nice bloke, infact they all seem pretty good around at swift. At the end of the day, most of us recieved our driver codes, unfortunately one of the girls in the class wasnt 23 yet (has to wait 28 days) but apart from that, we are all set, chatted to my mentor, seemed like a good guy, first thing we are doing after my e-log class tomorrow is a full "driver" pre-trip, and then teaching me about chaining up, so I feel good that I shall be learning everything from a guy who seems to care about his students.
Basically, from what I understand, if you get to orientation, You are going to get a job, unless you lied somewhere on your application, I put down my license suspension from 3 years ago in australia, and they dont care, mostly because its not on my american mvr, but also they like that I was honest and put it on their.

So I have an update now from arounbd 2 weeks into being mentored.
My mentor is a company driver, which is good in my opinion, he doesnt care how long I take in doing a back, cause its not his fuel he is using. Also is just a good guy all round, we both are the same age, like the same sorta music and have a good time together.
He also cares about me or any of his students being good drivers, he makes sure I do things the Swift way, I was going to do a back where I was essentially gonna back in blindside, and he made me stop and told me how to do it the proper way. He is also teaching me how to be aggresive about getting loads, hitting up my dm before we have delivered our current load looking for my next load, just working hard and trying to make money. Remember your mentor gets a penny once you are solo for every mile you do, so he/she should be teaching you how to make the money and be aggresive and a good driver so he makes moneyscottied67 and SatelliteSender Thank this.
