ok before you all go "stop dont go to swift" too late im allready going to orientation in lewiston idaho.its really the only option i have to get my miles under me.my question is can anyone tell me anything about swift orientation in lewiston idaho? my recruiter only is telling me certain parts (of course). i really would like to know what to expect what to bring etc... i decided to drive there from montana other than sitting on a grey dog for 18 hours going nuts. any insight to swift orientation would be so appreciated. thanks

I'm headed to the SWIFT CDL Mill in Tennessee in two weeks.

From what I've gathered, the bulk of the people get kicked the first day. Failing drug tests or not passing the psychical.

I read on some forum, maybe this one, where three people failed the drug screen in their group. That's just dumb.

I know u have to go through some psychical tests. Think pull ups and lifting; practical things.

Was told by an independent recruiter that the main thing I won't like is that it is very over crowded and I won't get crap for drive time.

Lost in Montana, we are glad you found your way!!
May not be where you wanted to start, but hey, ya gotta start somewhere. They are the biggest carrier out there, so hopefully you won't have to worry about getting freight...
    Good luck to you. rdman

hahaha thanks rdman.ill give it my best, im just worried about passing swift's road test etc.. the school i went to was a cdl mill online cdl permit test and only 10 hrs of truck triaing. but i passed the dot test. only missed 2 parts of test examiner said. 1 the docking. i did the alley dock. i swear in my first attempt. i backed it in there perfect, didnt need to get out and look parked it between both cones first shot (can we say beginners luck folks). but my dumb ### couldnt back the truck in a straight line lol. i was nervous i guess. 2nd was i was to slow exiting the freeway. but i passed none the less.i just do not want to go to the road test in idaho next week and have them say "oh you need more training at our school" that would really suck. thats why im just trying to get a heads-up about orientation at swift.

I am reading your posts about Swift Training. Is this for new drivers without their CDL, or is it post CDL training?

I do not have my CDL, looking for the best way to get it without spending a bunch of cash I do not have.

Anyone have specific contact names for the recruiters for new drivers at Swift?

well i allready have my cdl from a school i was sent too. swift has their own school i dont know about costs. but thats how they get you for a year or more paying them back with small payments out of your check each week.go to the website and check for yourself thats the only way youll see. i dont know much about the school.swift has some major heat from alot of people hundreds of compliants against them. im doing it just to get my feet wet. have to take baby steps.

I went through a guy at Trucking Careers of America

He claims he doesn't work for SWIFT, and I'm sure he doesn't, but he's surely on their payroll somewhere.

All he talked about was SWIFT.

    Name is James McCormack.

He set me up with the recruiter at SWIFT.

School is $3,900 3 wks, and 6 wks OTR.

Thanks. Was there any out of pocket for the school? I understand they keep you working for them for a year, but did you have to pay the money up front and they " pay you back " each paycheck?

How about the training expenses? Did they put you up in a hotel at their expense, or was that your cost during the training?
