Also @DolphinCove don't worry, many companies will hire you. You guys are learning the hard way you shouldn't snitch on yourself. Especially those huge mega companies just brush you aside and don't even remember you 10 minutes later. The guy that fired you still has a job; you don't. It's easy for him to say "don't worry" because he's just trying to get you out the door without an argument.

    This.

Big thing, nd only you can answer this is: "Do you know how to drive?" If you don't, it's not the end of the world. There are lots of companies that will hire you with really good training programs.

    System/TWT, Melton, Wil-trans and others.

You SHOULD get off your trainers tuck and feel confident. If you need more training, search google for TRAINING companies and avoid the megas. You'll do fine. Just remember the three rules.

Training, kindergardening or supervising. No matter how you call it. New drivers might feel OK as long they have anybody along. But as soon they're by themselves it's making them nervous and loose control over their actions.

And that's the point to figure out when to stop, fourways on, take a walk or call 911 when necessary. This call can only be done by the driver and is nowhere in the books. It's somewhere on the paper in the companies training lessons but nobody can really "teach" this except experience.

I think personal maturity has a lot to do with this.

I was 51 when I STARTED. Not to be a jerk, but frankly there are things a 25 y/o will freak out over that I just take in stride.

It's not that I don't take those situations seriously, it's just that I know this isn't the end of the world. -Cause I've been through worse.

I went through orientation with a great company where the orientation guy was a jerk. I was like: "hmm, yep, he's an #######, so what." Other guys quit over him. With a GOOD JOB waiting one week ahead of them.

But plenty of young guys HAVE that maturity: "OMFG I just did something so stupid I'm embarrassed to tell anyone"

    A: Figure out a solution
B: Make up a lie and deny I did something stupid.
C: Do A, realize I need help that's going to embarass me and ask for it.

A and C seem like good solutions to me. Cause the problem is going to happen to EVERYONE. B is the mark of someone you don't want working for you.

And B is what even pretty tolerant companies will fire you for on the spot. DON'T LIE. Even if you look like an idiot telling the truth. I just heard about 4 guys getting fired from System. EVERY one of them told a lie.

Sometimes you just mess up and have to own it. Not a happy situation, but it has the virtue of being honest. Others, you mess up, keep your mouth shut and fix it. Knowing which one you're in, seems to be the crux of the OP's problem.

Exactly.... this is the REAL issue. We've all made mistakes. Ira how we deal with them then , and later , that make a difference.

OP can hopefully learn from this and still be a productive member of this industry.

Look back at this 20 yrs from now and have a story to tell YOUR trainees.

THAT was a responsible response !! it may not necessarily be true... but it shows that you are thinking.

I was thinking the same thing and you responded perfectly.

Go to prospective employers and say...
" here is what happened... here is what I DID... here is what I should not have done... and , here is what I've learned from it"

That will get you further than anything. Owning it and learning from your mistakes is part of your experience curve. You've taken a beating here , now it's time to raise your chin a prove us all wrong by showing that you CAN do this.

Go get another opportunity, make calculated , intelligent decisions. .. gain valuable experience, and move on to a better job and a long career.

Just go do it. But , people die out here. This is not a joke. Take it seriously. All of our reputations ride with you.

good advice for the op.I also like that the op did take responsibity and more or less said he's not perfect.like many have said everybody makes mistakes.its how you handle yourself and act afterwords.anything I hate is ppl making up excuses rather then own up to it.its an ego thing which gets them nowhere.
