You can't always go by the BOL weights, either. I once picked up an after-hours D&H that had 47K on the BOL. Since there was a CAT scale the next exit down, I scaled it. Tandems and drives were both in the 25K range. The BOL indicated about twice what was actually loaded.

It is also the reason that some terminals, not all, but would be a great idea, when t-calling a load they are asking what kind of truck and how much fuel when you scaled it. Three exceptions to this, loads coming in from Mexico t-calling at Nogales, El Paso and Laredo. For some reason they are not required to scale a load.
