I think most of the time it is a quick look and then they leap. Sometimes it is just distracted driving, what in science is known as Quantum Moronics. Quantum Moronics is the body of scientific principles that explains the behavior of morons and their interactions with matter around them.

I'm guilty of this myself as I pulled out in my truck on a motorcycle. Guilty as charged.

Still no loads, at least not the dedicated ones I was hired to do. Looks like it's time to bend over and start running NE Regional or take a .10 or more cpm pay cut and run general OTR.

Something I'm going to have to think about. I guess if anything, whatever happens it probably won't be long if I get that hourly position up in NJ.

I'm assuming that since you made that public you have kicked yourself in the backside and intend to be more attentive in the future?

I've made mistakes as well, and I keep slowing myself down (my response/action time, not my attention/reaction time...) so I won't make those mistakes again.

In my earlier days in a car I could simply move much more quickly in the vehicle I was in.
With a big truck, it isn't nearly the same. Everything moves in slow motion where the truck is concerned, so I've had to slow myself down quite a bit when acting on a situation.

Yesterday a car was merging in.
It was right next to the cab, so I slowed a bit to let it in.
Well, the driver decided to just move over before she had cleared me. She was about a foot away from hitting me as I hit the air horn and moved left as far as possible in my own lane. I may have gone over an inch or two into the other lane in the process, but I had traffic on that side also.
As she moved over and slowed, I looked over. It was a woman talking on the cell phone cell phone in her hand.
She was smiling and talking and never even looked over at me.
She got behind me, then passed me - still talking on the phone.

Quantum Moronics is a nice term.

But I don't think that applied in your situation, like it really did in hers.
You missed it, maybe because you were a hurry. And that is something we are all guilty of from time to time.
We notice it when it happens and try to do better in the future.

Her actions were of a person that simply doesn't have a clue.

Haha...got it. I will have to look you up however I'm rarely on there because it makes me sad since I don't have an immediate trip planned.

I love those people. I see them every single day when I would run up to Pennsylvania or back down to Virginia. It's the worst on 495 around D.C. and Hwy 270 off of 495. I see people that drive themselves right into the shoulder since they refuse to either speed up or slow down, drop in behind my truck or get up front. I just don't get it. I can only do so much but in heavy traffic, when I can't move left, I'm left with maybe slowing down a little and keeping the course. Virginia drivers are especially big on this lack of merging skills.

Yeah, the situation with that motorcyclist was I was pulling out of a fuel stop, he came from my right around a somewhat blind corner and I didn't see him right away. Luckily as he came around that corner and I finally saw him, I jammed the brakes as I started to move out and he passed in front of me.

I'll try to find everyone although it's been a long time since I actually been to the site. ON that site I'm LAUGHATMYVANAGON111. Yes, a terrible screenname for sure. It must have been a late night many moons ago when I had no cleverness in me and used an old email address. The laughatmyvanagon thing was derived from when I owned a 4wd VW Vanagon Syncro out in Boulder, CO and I used to take it up on some rocky and very rough 4wd trails to go shoot my gun or just take my dogs on an adventure. I passed a bunch of modded Jeep Wranglers that were hanging on the side of the trail. They watched me bash up my VW going over some big rocks and they couldn't stop laughing. It looked like someone pushing a blue loaf of bread over rough terrain. But it was fun and hence the email and screenname.
