They tell you .40/mile, then it's .38, then it's only .36 when you start running. Then you have to slip seat every 12 days or so. Then you have to wait at least a week to get a truck to go back on the road. You can get decent miles BUT they put the delivery date so far out that you have to hope and pray the receiver will take it early or you can drop it somewhere. THEN, you get a load to Albuquerque, NM...where there is a terminal...and they tell you "Why'd you take the load if you were gonna get there so early!" They don't offer to have you drop it at the terminal so you can get another load. Nooooo...you have to sit on your ### for 2 DAYS until it's time to go to the receiver. Smart ### DM won't even call or qualcom back and the fleet manager is just as ditsy.
This company sucks major ###!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Swift sucks ###!

It takes time. Your husband has to build up a reputation with the company. That doesn't happen overnight. Yes, it's frustrating, especially when you really need a good paycheck, but it's the same at any company. They are not going to put a rush load onto an unproved driver.
The truck issue is the stupid part- I simply do not understand why Swift cannot provide it's drivers with trucks. We can't haul freight without one, and it's hauling freight that brings money in to the company's coffers.
I don't understand lying about pay, either. A local tanker company I worked for in another life told me all though out the interviews that I would be paid $15/hr. My first paycheck showed up, and they paid me $10/hr. Quite a difference. And they all played dumb when I questioned why I wasn't getting $15/hr. I'm sure Swift came up with some excuse for not paying 38cpm, too. -
He has 5 years previous experience. He has already proven that he can, and will, run. His first load was 680 miles and it was quite a few days early. Even with a 60 mph truck he's getting where he needs to be early. I don't want him to have a rush load or JIT load but they could at least put a normal time frame for delivery.
The truck issue is VERY stupid and annoying. Oh yeah, they came up with some great excuse about pay as well. First said they'd only verified 4 yrs (when he's got 5) then said it was only 3 yrs. Really?
UGGGHHH, so frustrating!
If they won't give him a load tomorrow that delivers Wed so he can make a decent check to pay RENT then he's coming home early and going to Wel. They already have him in for an orientation, a truck and a regional run. -
I hope it works out for him, whichever way he chooses to go.

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember someone warning you and your husband about both the pay and the slip seating. You were making plans way back then how you were going to try and foil the attempts to make him slip seat, Also on the pay, 38 cpm is max pay for a 5 year employee of Swift west of the Mississippi, I believe it is a penny more east of it. But Swift, despite what the recruiter tells you, won't give that to you until you have proven yourself. I think we also told you this, but at the time you were more concerned about the fact that hubby didn't call you at a specified time. Sorry it didn't work out for both of you, good luck to him wherever he ends up.

Uhm I must have missed an episode. When did Swift start slip seating their trucks?
doubledragon5 Thanks this. -
It's fairly new, couple of months or so. -
Yep Swift totally sucks the big one... They are paying your husband based on the employment history they can verify and doing exactly what they said they would do as far as slip seating is concerned. As for proving himself, he has no recent experience and hasn't run a load 1 mile for Swift before now so he has to prove himself to Swift before they actually trust him with a load that has a tight time frame on it. As for T-calling a load enroute, why didn't he inquire about that option before accepting the load? Macro 9 actually has the ability to do that built right in now...
Sounds like you thought you were gonna beat the system and now wanna kick and scream when you don't get your way. No wonder hubby doesn't call very often!!!!doubledragon5 Thanks this. -
I agree with everyone else. Don't expect to come out the gates at Swift thinking you are going to make some good money. You got to give it some time. they have to know you can do the job before they will trust you in taking some of these loads that have really good miles.
Does not matter if you are a rookie or experienced you have to earn your way. First thing to do is get the hell off that family plan. get off of Bronze as fast as you can and you will get off the plan. Shoot for gold and that family plan will go bye bye.
It took me almost 9 months to start making decent money with Swift and I went through some bad weeks but I stuck it out and now my checks are getting higher and higher each week. I have been running 2800 to 3200 a week most weeks.
It takes time just like any other company out there.Everett and doubledragon5 Thank this. -
Brother!

Sick em rover!!!!!!!
I beat the Swift system.....I don't drive a Swift anymore!UGA79 Thanks this.
