I just got a truck assigned today, and the pet policy was explained like business as usual. Got to put a $500 deposit - half of which is non-refundable. Saw a guy with a dog in his truck just an hour ago.

I'll be going OTR for 2-3 weeks until the dedicated route gets set up. I figure I should give it a try since these dedicated routes are highly sought after, and it would be difficult to get later on.

As far as the mentor thing goes, I know of 3 students who have changed mentors, and it was no big deal. One guy said they didn't even ask why, just got him a new one the next day. It may be that other terminals don't have the resources that Phoenix does.

So tomorrow morning I get my first load. We'll see how things go. I'm keeping a good attitude and from what I hear I got a good driver manager, so that's a plus. I'll let you all know how things go.

You might look into the Walmart dedicated out of the Sparks DC. I know when they opened we were sending drivers down there. We used to service California until they got that DC opened. They are Grocery so you'll learn not only dry van, but refer as well. Never had to wait on a load, and no touch freight.. Incase you are wondering I drive out of the Grandview DC for Swift.

Dropped off a couple of loads there, pretty nice place. Never could figure out why they called (and got paid) to Sparks, when it's at what, mile marker 32!:biggrin_2559:

That would make me feel so much better if that recruiter was mistaken. He told me that maybe 5 days ago. He said the people who already had pets where going to be allowed to keep them... maybe they changed their minds... dunno... i guess we shall see..

due to circumstances beyond my control I am getting ready to go thru their school in Lewiston. My terminal will then be troutdale. Needless to say I am a little freaked out...

Thats easy, they didn't have the trucks to handle the freight, and they wanted drivers with expierence to go down there. Heck I was even asked and told them no. It seems they didn't plan it very well, and opened it before they got thier fleet up and running.

Yeah they have quite a few signs up and down the interstate begging for drivers. CR England has a "Reno home base, no problem" sign and Greatwide has a couple too.

If Wallyworld was smart, they'd set up a small trucker's walmart at that place.

Yeah, its a done deal. I just talked with a recruiter again. I called a different one this time to see if I would get the same story. The have cancelled their pet policy. Sept 17 was the cut off date.

Norcal, you got in under it. Anyone else coming on won't be allowed to have one. lol... i joked and made reference to sneaking her on... he didnt think that was funny. Said I would get fired. He said that Swift has had a pet policy for as long as they been around. But the price of oil has risen so much and people will leave their trucks idling for hours on end. He said that if the drivers would have been willing to take the pets with them sometimes instead of always leaving them in the trucks then maybe the high idle rate would have been lower. I asked about apu's. He said that they are too expensive and that 'when we are in a truck we are supposed to work not be living a life of luxury.' I thought that was sort of a weird remark. Like to see him live in a truck. He said that the drivers have figured a way around the Opti Idle. I can't help but wonder if its the new management that is taking over. There is some new financial guy that is in charge now. I bet this was his idea. God help me if I should get cold.

Yeah, it's called rub forth gear while the engine is idling and it will keep on idling forever. Only costs about 14 bucks to idle a truck for 24 hours at the fuel costs they pay. Sure that costs alot over a whole fleet, but what the hell, it isn't like they aren't bending you over every chance they get and screwing you out of at least 10% of your pay all the time (real miles rolled vs household movers miles)

Nothing ticks me off worse than some ##### who lives in a temperature controlled enviorment 24 hours a day, telling someone who is gone from home weeks at a time, that they have no need to be comfortable, they only need to work.

    TokyoJoe Thanks this.

A recruiter came in to my school today from Swift. I asked him about the apu's. He said that they are starting to order them for their '08 trucks. Of course I do not know if this is true, only what he told me when I asked.
