I did not mean Swift has a 6 month contract, but if you are able to pay upfront, you get your 3900.00 back after 6 months of employment. In theory that is. If you pay for a private school then you pay your money and thats it. I have a boat sitting in the yard that I need to clean up and get sold. Thats what I plan on using for the school. Mean while I have taken the tanker and hazmat tests and it takes up to 30 days for the hazmat background check to come back.

I wish. I have been stone cold sober for the last two weeks. I wish I had a few on tuesday but I was sitting in Florida waiting to deliver my load. What do you think she will do to me. :biggrin_2554:......It might be fun. :biggrin_2559:

My recruiter actually double checked for me and there is no $500 bonus. She said the same thing as others have said on the forum regarding how updated her information is. She actually called her boss and was told that there is no bonus because the training pay was increased - JUST LIKE EVERYONE SAID on the forum.

My friends that gave me that information are a little surprised but if given the choice they said they would rather have the better training pay because of the $$ needed for expenses.

I know I took the defensive side in regards to this so if I got a little rough around the edges I apologize. Hopefully everyone will understand when it comes to friends I usually take their word as gold. They should have told me to check on it instead of saying "yeah you'll get $500 when you take your first load."

I hope to do a lot of driving west of the Mississippi river. The farthest west I have ever been is St. Louis except one time when I flew to South Texas for a day.

I have relatives in Salt Lake City, UT I have not seen since I was a teenager. Maybe I'll get to see them again soon. Swift has a terminal in SLC so I'm sure they can find a load that will take me there.

My first choice would have been RoadMaster in West Memphis. Due to my driving record they were unable to get any offers for me. I also checked out ASU but had the same problem (Roadmaster and ASU basically have the same clients give or take 1 or 2).

Swift is still waiting to verify some information but if everything I said checks out then I'll be good to go. Class starts on the 21st.

I am just happy that Swift is giving me a chance.

    Hey kevin
Im pretty close to memphis too and have been considering all the same options you have. Does ASU and roadmaster find you a job offer before they allow you to enroll in the class? I am considering swift as well but i was hoping for something a little better. I havent had a ticket in 14 years. What companies recruit through roadmaster and ASU.

Training company's usually don't want you if you have more then a couple of minor moving violations but Swift pays so bad that they might be able to absorb more risk then other company's. Plus the requirements change depending on freight and how many drivers a company needs. A no because of a bad driving record in the winter might get you hired in the summer. It's up to safety not the recruiter. Hope yours ran your record by safety? Swift always needs a lot of drivers to replace the burnt out ones so they will probably take anyone who can move a truck down the road.

2 Years at Swift would be rare since once you pay the loan off they will red flag your ten screen and the games would begin to try to get you out of their so they would not have to pay you back. Remember Swift depends mostly on cheap newbies that can make them money despite all the cheap freight they haul. A driver making $800 a week doing the same job as one making $400 week is not what they want.

If you have no choice but Swift then put everything in Storage buy lots of peanut butter and jelly, join a book club, and get ready for one of the most brutal jobs in the trucking industry.

You guys are missing the boat here.

People who ask questions like "How can you live in that neighborhood?" and "How can you put up with those people?" and "How can you work for that company?" are not thinking about human nature.

People live, work and play in environments that they are familiar with and feel comfortable in..............

This boy is already a Swifty........ he'll be just fine.........:yes2557:

$300 more in training pay is better than a $500 bonus?

If you needed more proof then there it is............ he's already using Swifty Math............... :biggrin_2559:

    Kevin,
If someone on a trucking forum asks if you have a license, they mean a Commercial Drivers License.

Don't let the banter bother you......... I really do think you'll be just fine........... if you don't like it you can always add another notch of experience to your belt and move on......

Yes they will try to get you an offer but its not a guarantee that you will get hired. I have heard of people going to ASU or Roadmaster only to get dropped by the company they got an offer from just days after starting the training, then having to finance the training on their own. It is rare for that to happen but it does happen - usually for legitimate reasons. Make sure the company you get an offer from has already ran your background and driver history before you start. I had an offer from USA Truck but when I asked them to go ahead check me out they called me back a few days later and said no.

Dude if your CDL got revoked I can guarantee you its your own fault.

Last time I checked the only requirement for your instructor is to have a CDL. Hell you DONT even have to go to driver school!

There is a written test and a driver test.

The written you can actually study on your own and pay the fee and take the test. No big deal.

The driver test... well its easy to get a permit. You get your permit, go drive a semi with someone who has a CDL, go take the driver test, and your done.

So if the instructor did not meet requirements then he must not have had a CDL...

Or I could have kept this post short and just called you a liar (but I didn't)...

    Have a nice day... :biggrin_25523:
