Your absolutely correct about the computer skills. I was actually working on developing a website for a client of mine so I didn't have time. I own my own web design business that makes about $500 to $800/mo. I just started it about a year ago. I definitely have the basics down LOL

Sounds like your doing great to me. If I had the money (or the good credit) needed I would have done the same thing and paid for my own training.

Well I guess you could read my post like that. Most of the drivers I know are happy with their job but with any job there are as many negatives as positives. The Swift drivers I know are happy for the most part.

If its really going to be hell then I'll look at other options, but Swift is the only option on the table for me right now.

    :biggrin_2559:

I have a feeling that your going to be a great truck driver. You have taken the time to do research and make good decisions.

I will agree with you that Swift is NOT the trucking school/company of choice, but for me and others it may be the only option.

Just remember every company has dream stories and horror stories. For some people Swift may be a perfect fit (LOL) and for others it might be a nightmare from day one. I just hope I'm at least somewhere in between.

I have had 2 minor not at fault accidents and 2 citations (non accident related) in the past 3 years so my options are limited.

    Oh, I can't resist........

    1. You are 30 years old and everything you own fits in your brothers garage? :biggrin_25522:
(actually that makes me feel old....... got married at 18...... my youngest is going off to college......)

    2. Rent for $200.......... don't try living in California! :biggrin_2559:

    3. Before you call me "buddy" again, click on my name and profile......... you never know, it might even give you more to complain about....:biggrin_25525:

BTW.....You need to lighten up! Don't you know high blood pressure is a serious issue for truck drivers? :biggrin_25521:

Well it used to fit into a 3BR 2 & 1/2 bath condo I owned until I got a divorce last January. Its a long story but we only had the condo for 2 years and sold it for just a little bit more than we owed. So about 5 yard sales later yes, it all fits in my brothers garage. Pretty silly for a person my age you think?

I wouldn't live in CA if you paid me. Seriously!

Earthquakes, fires, mud slides, more laws than all the other states combined.... rolling black outs, no good supply of water... must I continue??...lol

I might be able to get a 5x5 storage unit in CA for $200 (only to have some natural disaster wipe out all I own)...

There is plenty to do in CA thats for sure but I have never visited. I'm sure there is more to it than natural disasters and the Terminator for Governor.

LOL I'm not complaining - just stating the facts & I checked out your profile a long time ago. Nothing to complain about.

I have lightened up. I just don't like it when people bash others for making a decision about what they choose to do. As far as going to Swift, the only other option I have would be to go hundreds of miles away for training which I don't care to do. If I have to put up with Swifts BS for a year or two then thats a decision I'll have to live with.

here's where you went wrong, getting all bent out of shape over the opinion of a STUDENT that has no practical experience in the real world of trucking.

i bet in 6 months, reality will slap him in the face and he'll go home with his tail between his legs.

when i went to cdl school 8 years ago, of the 12 people in my class, i'm the only one still driving. (we had several "mr. know-it all" type guys like storyteller")

i'm not gonna tell you swift was a great place to start, but you seem resigned to make something of it, so, keep your nose clean, jump through all the hoops they put out for you and in a year or two you can shop around for a better job. good luck man

Please don't be so harsh on your fellow posters, especially when you don't have your facts straight, makes you look foolish. Scandals like this have hit several trucking companies and CDL mills over the years. CRE had one of their mills shut down and all their licenses revoked a few years back. The issue is not with the training, but with the testing. These CDL mills had agreements with their states DMV's to conduct the actual testing and issuing of the CDL's to the drivers. Some folks got greedy and just took money and issued the CDL's without actually requiring the students to take the tests. When one of these mills get shut down like this, all prior CDL's run the risk of revocation.

Whoops, I guess I should have finished reading before I posted. Anyway, Kevin, you have the right attitude and you have checked into things so your future is up to you, and a little luck. You are right, if your options are limited then sometimes you just have to suck it up and do things the hard way. It might not be the way that someone else would, but it is your way and you will find a way to make it work. Good luck to you, and you are right, many people do find success at Swift. Keep your nose clean and your eye on the goal.

Most of my posts begin with the comment that I am a wannabe/newbie/student....... I would never pretend to be something I wasn't.......... but a bad company is a bad company.....

Sorry. Not a him (wait, let me make sure........ nope, nothin' changed) and I may have been accused of having horns (maybe, maybe not) but I'm pretty sure I don't have a tail............ :biggrin_25525:

As for deciding it's not for me........ just might happen...... but hey, as far as I can see..... trying something and not liking it sure beats wondering what would have happened............ if..............

Plus........ I have never regretted any adventure that allowed me to play in the boys sandbox......... :biggrin_2559:

It's not my life...... I just don't like seeing people make rash decisions....... if you look back I told the guy that no matter what happened it wouldn't kill him........ he could just chaulk it up to experience and move on......
    :biggrin_255:

Sometimes you do just have to do what you have to do.............

    :yes2557:
I really wasn't looking, but I did just see this post...........

I believe Kevin was looking for people "speaking from experience?".....
