Do me a favor, Dick. Post this on a mechanic's forum and show us what sort of responses you get. Be sure to tell them that anyone who doesn't use WD-40 on exhaust bolts is a buffoon.

this coming from a guy who only touches the hood latches, the hood, the door handle, steering wheel, shifter and the knob on the radio (i'd say CB, but you probably dont have one) with their bare hands......10-4 good buddy.

I'm actually a chick, not a guy, with ten years of experience as a professional mechanic. I'll put my skills against any female mechanic, and most of the guys. I just finished building a 440 magnum repro engine for my Chrysler, I'm getting ready to pull the stern drive off of my boat and reseal the transom, and I need to replace the electric fuel pump and battery in my airplane, set up the Chrysler to go through emissions, and replace a timing belt in the hubby's Volvo so my daughter can have it. One of these days, I need to do some metal repair on my hearse and paint it, then I need to finish reupholstering the hearse, and probably do the boat as well.

Now I ask you, with all of this crap going on, do you really think that I'm in the mood to crawl all over a greasy truck? No, one has to put one's foot down somewhere, and I don't work on the truck, unless it's an emergency.

Now if my husband wants to work on it, that's his pregrogative, but he doesn't have the patience to be a mechanic, IMO. He gets mad and breaks things when they don't want to go together.

As for staying in a hotel, we're a team, and as long as we're getting decent miles, we can afford to. Just paying off our lease got us a $900/month pay raise. If your truck is breaking down, and you're all greasy, and you have to sleep in terminals, well...tough ###. My life is good.

you sure are doing alot of crying about it.....

but my point is still valid. You dont want to "get dirty" or "anymore dirty" just to ahve someone else do the work for ya. Fine...your choice. But i'll get dirty if it means i'm saving myself $50-100 in shop work.....

I didn't read the whole thread, grease don't bother me, but you couldn't pay me enough to lay down on a pissed soaked parking lot.

Some people enjoy rolling around in urine, some don't.

Chacun son truc, to each his own.

Compared to rolling around under a truck in piss-soaked coveralls, there's nothing nasty about it.
