2008 before having to come off road for medical problems I did! I was at $.41 a mile but was doing a dedicated weekly route to NYC with multi drops and a 1 night layover. I even posted that years W2 in here http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ckers-advice/108869-my-25-week-w-2-proof.html which ONLY shows 25 1/2 weeks of work! The year before was $74,000!
$1200.00 a week can be 3000 miles at $.40 a mile and that pay is about right which covers COLA the food both parts of a family need to eat (the one driving plus the ones at home eating) medical and anything else needed to survive such as rent/mortgage car, insurance for both, medicale and co pay, health insurance that is pulled out of pay check but for some reason they all lied and said that freight rates fell due to the economy and other things which ok if you believe that line as they didn't EXCEPT for the normal and usual slow downs at the first of each year! Didn't anyone stop eating or buying home cleaning supplies ( that this a good stock tip! Women will always clean their homes unless you're married to a pig! They WILL spend on that AND beauty supplies! 3 stock tips are food, home cleaning and beauty!)
But this fake rate reduction is BS! This fake pay reduction is greed with company owners and CEOs. Look up the rates! They are coming back up as usual especially on produce!
But if you are paid a FAIR rate and have a company that has a good sales person and in house broker agent and gets you the, what used to be a short week of 3000 miles a week, then that $1200 would be a bad pay check!
If my checks were ever less than a grand a week I was having a very bad week and would be answering to the boss lady why I was sitting somewhere and not looking for my own load!
WHAT??? You ask?? Well I always was looking for a load if I wasn't pre dispatched on one as I figured they were behind at my yard and quite a few loads I found and sent in they took and guess what? Beings how I found a load and didn't sit and whine like a lot of drivers did I got a small commission! Ya gotta love us old O/O's that went company and still have a contact or 2 left and who also knows how the internet works!
If you work for beans expect to grow beans for dinner!
If it's called a backhaul, hang the phone up!
If they say some stupid number less than $2.00 per mile for trash and you take it that's your problem!
If you turn the key for less that $.35 you are way to desperate for a job and you'll still be desperate when the wife calls you screaming that you cost to much to be away from home! If you spend MORE than $150. a week on craspola then you are spending way to much to keep your stomach filled and feed some stupid habit such as smoking, coffee, drugs, toys or whatever you don't need!
YES I DID! I said smoking!
That habit is way to costly and yes it's your pathetic right BUT do you have the right to burn money when the children at home are struggling because that $550 a week pay check you bring home is losing what $30-$70 for a carton of leaves and then that cost to feed your face and anything else you need like sodas, coffee, candy bars, snacks yada yada yada!
It can be done! Stop thinking that pissant pay is paying the bills and feeding your face when the wife needs it at home!
Demand a fair pay or walk and maybe the rest of these desperate drivers who are thinking that "it's the economy" stop believing that BS line means that no one is paying! They are but it's not coming out of the companies accounting offices!
Why do you think all these "training" companies pay crapola pay, increase their fleet sizes and drop drivers like the plague when they get time under their belts and are looking for a raise? They can keep running suckers through the mill and throw them under the bus when it suits them as they have a stack of applications a foot high on the HR's desk to choose from!
Keep falling for that line and you'll all believe that you'll never see above $500 a week!

3K miles at 40cpm...so you didn't pay taxes, Medicare or worker's comp? You took your gross home? The $1,200-plus is after taxes. Yes, he worked a little harder for it. But, he's happy with it.

I'm not taking sides one way or the other here. But, I will point out that his net also was based upon no down time due to repairs, or any major repairs that put the maintenance account into the red, or time off where the lease payment keeps on coming whether the trucks moves or not. (As an o/o you will also have payments and associated expense if the truck is not moving)
NWMAXI Thanks this. -
if your in a lease purchase you really have to watch your penny's or when you take time off that truck payment and such can get away from you...

For my numbers year-to-date. I am a solo driver. I do not mentor. -
Taxes for me were NEVER over 18.75% on any of my pay checks after the Bush cuts hit! Most people claim all their dependents on their tax forms when they hire on. NEVER claim them all! Why give the IRS or the Gooberment money they will not pay an interest to you for you loaning them the money! Claim 1 or 1/2 of your dependents and keep as much of your pay check in your pocket! Ask your accountant how you should claim to keep your money but at the same time not so much that you have to write a check to Uncle Sam when you file!
Have a VERY good accountant and not those yearly big boxes do your taxes. Find one who is more of a trucking specialist who will claim every thing you can get.
The one really great deduction that even L/P drivers over look is the per diem. Even company drivers think they can only get it if that BFI rook it out of them! Claim every day and it will really give you a hand in those taxes!
But when it came to my taxes File smart and you won't see some stupid 25% pulled out! But after filing do the math again and watch it fall to about 14% IF your accountant is at least good! That's why when someone says they pay 25% they really don't it's what you pay after filing! Mine had settled at that 14% after Bush 2 got rid of those Clinton era taxes which were at 19% and I can't wait to find a job that'll take me back in my screwed up condition so I can see where they are now! No, I refuse to pay taxes while on disability! I have to pay for Medicade at $499.00 out of a $1550 a MONTH disability check which is actually called SSI or something having to do with my social security! Be glad you're working but for some of you I surely hope that $.21cpm split works out for you!
Remember that those tax returns aren't free money! It's YOUR money taken out of your pay! Believe it or not people just LOVE getting big returns forgetting that it was their money to start with and there is no interest paid to you BUT be late paying YOUR taxes and look at how the Gooberment will screw you! Their interest rates actually violates the RICO ACT! But who is going to arrest the Gooberment?
Remember, file smart.
As an L/P or O/O pay quarterly as the fine for paying only once is not worth it. Get a copy of the tax guide and when you get your statements pull that money out of the pay check and bank it in your bank account to draw a little interest! You're in this to MAKE money not give it away. If that's how you work I'll send you my address and you can "give" it to me! LOL!Injun Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info folks. Very informative.

Well for 1 when you buy you can right off the depreciation value of the truck .I dont believe you can do that on a lease. there are alot of tax advantages to owning. That you dont get with a fleece. just my 2cent worth
