OP finish your contract and move on but make sure companies hire out of your area specially the one you pick before you quit. Its not that easy to find work these days and many many drivers will quit 3 times in the first 2 years dissapointed. Good luck in life.

Its not always that simple. These training companies don't just train drivers. They train dispatchers too. If you get a bad one they will sink you and not even know any better. Ive seen that myself. You gotta learn how to fire those and make it stick.

Do you actually believe Swift is going to dispatch you as they do a 20 year employee? I don't understand where you get your assumptions, was it on TTR? Your profile says 0-1 years, and you are parroting a lot that you could have only read and not experienced. Anyone can read what you have, and come to their own conclusion. Your opinion and analysis of it all is not particularly relevant here. The OP made a statement, I backed it up with the personal experience of my close friend. They sat him, he wasted time looking for empties, he sat some more. He turned down NOTHING. All he wanted to do was run and they couldn't furnish him with the miles to earn a living. He saw first hand what many have said here, that mega companies (Swift in particular) are not at all concerned with their drivers, their income and well being. I shared his story to validate the OP and as a cautionary tale to anyone who goes to run system at Swift. If you didn't get the good out of my post, that is yours to decide. You go ahead and get hired on with them. I'm sure we will all see your posts lamenting your treatment by them soon enough. I for one, will not remind you of the above post. Everyone deserves the chance to make a mistake.

Try going from Albany NY to Calif and get a check for 345.00 out of a load that paid 5000.00 as an O/O. And the company wonder why I left...

That would suck. Makes me like my job more. Heartland has a lot of weirdness going on but I make 1k at around the 2300 mile mark so at least I don't have to sweat the miles too much. That's what a good rate will do for you.

to taxidriver, if I fail miserably then you can laugh and tell me that you told me so....but I dont take everyone negative review to heart especially since I have gotten to know some drivers...
I have heard far worse for a ton of other companies and I have heard from some better ones but until I get my experience in I need to do what I can do first.

I have gotten to know 4 people pretty well, one guy has been with swift for 22 years (not all driving), one 17, 9 and cant remember the other, I also met up with some drivers in Fontana today and asked some questions, one guy said the company has been good to him being only there for 2 months and got a newer truck today, another said he makes an ok living and one guy just ######## about truck breakdowns.
I do not base everything off what someone says on a forum, most post online with a negative compared to those who take the time out for a positive. I will continue to talk to people along my journey and find out for myself how my path turns out. All I stated was that the $100 a week statement didnt seem legit and thats my opinion, I dont see why someone would just sit around for several months not making enough to even survive on instead of finding another company or even a different job all together.

I didnt choose to be a trucker to make a ton of money, my previous profession would make me a lot more right now and I have a degree and enough experience for a few different positions but I am choosing to do something I enjoy more. Of course I can fall back on that stuff but I hope daily that this choice will work out in the end.

I couldn't even hardly live off of 100/wk even if I had no bills and even got rid of my phone.. I eat around 100$/wk, mostly under 100, but close to it...sometimes over 100. I suppose I could eat cheaper but..wow... for 7 months? swift didn't make any money off of you, probably lost a good amount of money just having you in that truck because obviously you didn't do much work.

as others have stated his story doesn't add up, its not possible to avg 100/wk for SEVEN months, the company would of fired him by then for any number of things, theyre basically housing him for free and throwing in ac/heat as charity.

I knew several 20+ year Drivers when I was with Swift in 04. All of them loved it and were very mellow, Humble Men. It is what you make of it. To be honest, Swift was the easiest trucking OTR job I have ever had. The reason I left was the low pay, I averaged 6-700 gross per week at .26 cpm, and horrible discrepancy between miles paid vs miles driven (2 months were over 2400 miles) following their exact routing. I have entertained the idea of going back and training Drivers. Most of the content Drivers I met were the trainers and there will always be students. You know, that pesky 140% turnover rate LOL
