I want to be an instructor one day but I wont be going for that for a few years out since I dont know much being new but its something on my mind and a goal set. I do not want to be a mentor I know for sure, being in the Academy and also seeing some of these new drivers I would not want them handling my life on the road. There are some really bad drivers out there including some who have even driven for years....There was one guy in my class who drove over 20 years and retired for about 9 he said but failed Swifts road test and had to go to the academy if he wanted a job, he did horribly there too. Guy had a ton of bad habits and very little attention span.
Swift Transportation can kiss my gluteous maximus!!!

So what makes you not a recruiter for the company you are fond of? Please do tell. When was the last time a recruiter said save, make sure you have your life together before you attempt trucking? Would it not be beneficial to my paycheck if I were indeed a recruiter to get as many people out here as possible, as soon as possible? Ready or not? Oh well, thanks for the free thread plug.
According to this logic, there is no such thing as a guy who is pleased with his company. It's unheard of for someone to be happy about his employment at a trucking company! This guy must be a recruiter, I've never heard of such a thing! And yet.. You're employed with your company, thus, happy enough to stay, thus according to this logic, maybe a self made recruiter by this said logic? I don't know. Everyone who is happy is a recruiter! Lol ^.^God Bless America Thanks this. -
Most of the big companies could care less about the drivers. Crete is the only major OTR worth working for.

Bait and hook... what a waste of a drivers time.

Ya Know, I just finished school, after a 20 year break, and I have been reading TONS on the internet, trying to glean as much information about this industry before I make a decision where I want to be. I was strictly a local driver, Lowboy, and dumps with tag trailers, but knew drivers for some of the bigger carriers back in the days, plus some "cowboy" drivers (remember in "6 days" where he mentions little white pills?). The cowboy drivers are mostly dead, and wouldn't make it in today's trucking world-those days are OVER, and it's a whole new ballgame. The major carriers are looking out for THEIR interest, which they rightly should. We, as new truckers, need to do the same. I'm going to take a pragmatic approach to seeking employment, because it's apparent that LOTS of us grab at the first opportunity that presents itself. Sometimes out of desperation, sometimes because of a savvy recruiter. One thing I hope NOT to be doing is crying on this forum because I got messed over by the big, bad carrier. It's possible, but Let's just pray that's not the case. I've put my feelers out to smaller operations first, and gotten some decent response. One thing for sure, the pay there isn't in the same realm of a newb carrier. The OP hasn't yet told us his story, and I'm itching to hear it. If I end up there, I want to know from him WHAT happened. I've heard form Swift newbies that are doing OK. Not getting filthy rich, but OK. My advice to anyone new and looking like me is to open your eyes, go to truck stops, talk to people, and know enough to make an informed decision. And thank you to all of you who post your experiences.
