Gotcha. I've been on the Wal Mart account for about a year now. I see a few Swifts coming in every once in a while.

I hate to bust your bubble JMS, but Swift didn't require you to do a driving test because you just got out of driving school recently. Anyway, good luck with your training.

Burst his bubble? Didn't he say he didn't have to take the driving test because he had just graduated from school?

    Hi everybody,

I'm looking for information on driver's experiences who work out of the Denver terminal. Good or bad. Any information would be helpful.

    Thanks for your time!

Does anybody know how you change mentors once your on the road?

Also, will this lead to any consequences for the student?

    Thanks

I run out of the Denver terminal. Just like every other terminal there are people sitting around whining about not having a load, I've never had this problem. The staff so far has been very helpful with anything I've needed. Don't bother trying to find a place to park there when there is snow on the roads, it fills up fast.

jessiemae83, Just call your DM(the person in charge of students) and tell them what is going on. Should be no problems, the worse thing that might happen is they might put you on a greyhound to get you to a terminal to get another mentor. I switched mentors in my 3rd week and had no problems. The greyhound ride kinda sucked though.

I will admit that some of there terminals and their people are ok, but that is not the main issue.

The main issue is with the company itself as a whole and that is where the main problem is at with the company as no one there knows how to do their jobs nor do they know how to communicate and that is just how the corporate office in Phoenix operates.

Basically the management sucks there big time and that is no joke. They can't figure out as to whether or not they are comming or going and that is pretty much the same everywhere even outside of the trucking industry. Yeah sure, there are some good apples in the bunch, but overall the whole barrel of apples has done gone and rotted itself out and in my opinion that is pretty sad.

Biggest problem I ever had with the Denver terminal was the shop. They are on an hourly wage and don't care how long it takes to get a simple task done. One time we had fueled then picked up the load. We found we were overweight by a couple of hundred pounds. They wouldn't lend us the siphon pump so we could pass some fuel on to another driver coming in to fuel and they were "too busy" to come out and take care of it then, said it could be a couple of hours. We ended up putting our chains in storage to bring the weight down (didn't need them in August).

Wow! I just got finished talking to a Swift recruiter today and I am set to begin training in August. All the other places I've checked with have told me to check back later, they aren't hiring in my area. Can Swift be used as a stepping stone? ....or is it that bad?! I want to start NOW! I am a teacher, but don't want to quit my job until I see if I can handle a truck. Apparently I started too late in the year to start immediately.:biggrin_25526:

Contrary to what you will read on here from numerous Swift hatemongers (many of whom have never driven for them), Swift IS a good place to start. And depending on where you live and your circumstances, it is a good company to stay with. They didn't become one of the largest truckload carriers by being stupid. They have many drivers who have been with them for years. Their turnover is higher than some but not as high as others, due to the fact they are a training company. Best of luck to you.
