i'm calling BS on that one. Dont know who you spoke to within the company, but from what i hear, they will still put students thru orientation and on road training, but no new drivers (new to the company) will be hired till april.
What gets me, is all these newer trucks that SIT at terminals, yet they have POS volvos out there breaking down every other day. I'd like to know their breakdown rate per day. right now/ i'm looking at 9 new/newer trucks, 1 T2k, 1 new international and the rest columbias. Tose trucks have to have better fuel mileage and less wear than trucks 4-5 years old. I drive a 2005 Volvo, with almost 540k miles. knock on wood, i dont have any problems with it....and to me, a truck is a truck. but if this starts to break down on me....it will be hard for me to keep my mouth shut.

Why is it every time I am on 94 around chicago that I look over and see a swifty in the express lane??? The lane that has a big sign no trucks allowed....
-
Because swift drivers think their super truckers.

According to what I've heard we can expect 400 random driver cuts in the near future. They are also cutting office type jobs as well.

Hiring is done on a terminal-by-terminal basis. When a terminal needs to hire replacements they do. One terminal my have a hiring freeze while another hires. Last week there were four drivers in my orientation. Two were going with a mentor and myself and another driver were going right t solo if we passed the road test. SOOOO what you hear from one Swift driver will probably differ from what you hear from another based on the terminal they drive out of.

and i am sure that swift is the ONLY trucking company to ever have trucks in a non-truck lane.
Here is my thing. I would love to be O/O, but i want to do with with my own lease away from a truck company because i dont want to have to feel 'tied' to the company i lease on with. 2nd....my first mentor's truck (he was O/O) i remember his DM set him up with like 4-5 preplans for an entire weekend. I get one...deliver it, put in my MT call and wait. and wait....and wait. I know he is O/O, but i want to roll. -
question . . . is the mentorship mandatory six weeks . . . or can you get out early on good behavior?
lol
