JCT
reason.
No company trucks to compete with. JCT all L/P or O/Ocdnicholson70 Thanks this. -
You mean those white JCT trucks that have all the company branding are actually O/O's?
-
They do have company trucks....all those wanna be o/o renting the trucks....glorified company drivers!
-
Here's the deal. Both have tons of freight. Both have long runs. Both have decent equipment to offer as lease/purchase trucks, JCT will offer you an APU, you pay for it, Swift does not. JCT are regular fleet trucks, Swift has some loaded O/O spec'd trucks for the lease. Both leases run SEVERAL years. JCT has a $1 buyout after completion. Almost every JCT driver is an L/P driver, they have a few O/O's while Swift has company, O/O and L/P. that's a lot of competition. JCT is strictly reefer. Swift has Northwest heavy haul, reefer, vans, flats, and doubles. Neither pay over .95 a mile. If you have no money to start out this lease deal, then you should stick to a company driver job until you have some. Nobody starts a business with 0 money.

I am one of those in the "almighty go buy your own" crowd, but I do have a question. What is it about a lease purchase that appeals to people, even when they know before they ask the question what the majority of the responses will be?
joseph1135 and SL3406 Thank this. -
Probably appeals to the folks that can't get "their own" truck by other means. These fleece trucks are quite easy to get into, and often the only option for people with bad credit. I've talked to an LP who got his truck because he could go a few MPH faster, and needed no money down.
-
I think it's short term thinking, or lack thereof, that gets the trucks off the lots.
I can see absolutely no benefits to fleecing a truck from a carrier.
If the OP has no money, he has absolutely no business being in business.
Just because past mistakes screwed up your credit, doesn't mean screwing your job is a good option. Drive someone elses truck until you have the coin for a deposit etc.
How anyone can run, and make a profit, for the money those jokers pay, is beyond me. Mind, I think 99% of the fleece drivers wouldn't know how to work out a profit margin anyways, so maybe it's a moot point.

They'll tell you it's impossible to kick back in a company ride for a few years and pay down debts then save up cash. If they don't ever figure out money management they'll never cut it in any scenario It ain't rocket science getting on a budget. The rates these LP deals pay and the ease with which they put the starry eyed in a truck borders on criminal. It's not easy with paid for equipment fighting for every penny one can get. Why these guys with bad credit and boatloads of debt think they are gonna luck thru it is beyond belief but that's what they think. I had no credit when I bought my truck and when I got it home the title was in the mail a few days later. 5 years prior to that I was a company driver without a pot to piss in and debts, but I came up with a simple plan. But if they want to tell me that's impossible and jump behind the 8 ball then more power to them.

Agreed 110%
I moved here in 1999 from England. Worse than bad credit, I had NO credit at all!
First truck was paid for with cash (Int COE), second got a decent finance rate, 3rd was a better finance rate, last one was down to 5% interest and built to order.
From me moving here to taking delivery of this truck was only 6yrs. It can be done when you discipline yourself and your spending.
I hear THE most stupid reasons for going into a fleece purchase..
Want to go faster, want to turn down loads, want to go home when I want to, want to carry a pet, want to add chrome doodads that wont earn me a penny more, and so on.
Simple logic here folks, if the company you drive for isn't worth a crap in a company truck, MOVE COMPANIES. Do not think that fleecing a truck from them will fix all your ill thoughts.
And dont even get me started on their .95cpm plus FS rate crap....
MartinGearjammin' Penguin, rollin coal and aiwiron Thank this.
