Hey all, I'm new to the forums and have been looking into trucking. I just got fired from a job and I think I'm going to try out trucking now. I picked swift to start with. I did a lot of research and stuff but, where do you park when you get time off? Do you have to park at a terminal? Do you even make it back home to park there in the first place lol?

Depends what terminal you run out of, how far away from that terminal will your "time off" will be taken. I'm fortunate that I am able to park a truck and trailer at the house. Some guys park at a truckstop (you need to check first if they will allow you to just park there...most will not allow you to drop your trailer).

I live in Las Vegas and the closest terminal is in Phoenix. I know they have some truck stop things here in Vegas and I've seen lots of Werner and Swift here.

There's a drop yard in Vegas, so chances are you'll be able to drop your trailer at the yard and bobtail home for hometime. That's what I do in Boise. No terminal, but there's a drop yard.

I am told that I MUST turn in my truck every time I get time off no matter where or how long. I'm out of the Fontana terminal but live in tehachapi and have no way to get to/from terminal and home so I always request hometime in Phoenix where I have family close enough to pick me up and drop me off. Has anyone else had to do this? Is it company policy or just my DM's policy? Been solo with swift for about 2 months and will be working on my 3rd move into another truck after hometime...

I am having the same issue. I will be going home next week after 6 weeks out and I am not looking forward to emptying out the truck and lugging all my stuff home again.
-
I don't see a need for me to pack up and take my stuff home for 2 days then get a different truck when I come back. I don't think Phoenix has a shortage of trucks. Both times I've gotten a truck from Phoenix, the lady in charge gave me a paper with 10 or so truck numbers and said "pick one, let me know which one you want."

Them forcing drivers to slip seat is bull. Might be okay in Phx
My suggestion is go somewhere that doesn't make you Slipseat. I was on a dedicated account and one of the main reasons I quit was the slip seating.
