I called and they say I cannot go to the school or get hired unless I'm over 23 and I'm 22, is this true?
Anyone under 23 went to their school?

From my understanding, to be hired you have to be 23 and older. This is with most companies.

True, but other schools are just plain college and is not affiliated with a trucking company so my chance of getting a job after I graduate is low so I think it's better to find a trucking company affiliated school but Swift is the only one that is very near me and other ones like CR England also but I heard they have bad reputation.

Yes, Swift requires that you are 23 unless you are prior military. It's a blanket maturity issue using statistics like the insurance companies do. I would rather guage the individual, but a big company doesn't work that way.

You could attend a private school and aim for another company. Or if your birthday is soon, just wait. Sorry.

I was about to ask when you will be 23. Swift didn't say "no" to you. They only said, "not yet." I know it's frustrating. Months seem like years when you're young. In the mean time, protect your driving and legal records, try to find something to do so you will have a recent work history. This will look better on you for when you do turn 23.

Injun is right. They are not rejecting you in any way, they are just saying you need to be a little older.

This also lets you experience something else that is essential to trucking - patience.

You are young, and you are used to doing things fast and quick. But truck driving is just the opposite. You don't race through the gears or accelerate quickly, you don't whip into a parking space, you don't just quickly glance and change a lane... you don't do anything without first assessing the situation fully. You don't even start driving until you have done a pre-trip inspection, and how often do you pre-trip your car?
And that all takes a bit of patience.

Stay on the forum's and learn as much as you can about the industry, then go for it next year if it is something you think you will enjoy.

i am attending a trucking program that is not affiliated with swift at the moment. if there is a college in your area that offers a trucking program, it would be worth your while to check it out. the one i am in is 1000 times better than one of those 3 to 4 week programs that are out there.

First, Swift (as good as they may be) is not the only trucking outfit out there. Yes, CRE has a horrid and well earned reputation.

Second, most trucking companies require that you be 23, as has already been stated. However, many local companies do not. There are local hauling companies in your area, I would bet money on it. Some of them may even be willing to hire you after you graduate from a local community college program or other organized training facility.

Third, don't put all your eggs in one basket. Your still very young. Go to another training facility (preferably a tech. of community college) they usually have the resources to assist you in your search for employment.
