Swift Transportation, a national trucking company, had contracted with
WorkWell to develop prework screens that would measure a new driver applicant’s ability to handle the physical demands of truck driving. By identifying potential hires that are physically unable to handle the rigors of truck driving, Swift could reduce on-the-job injuries and workers compensation costs—which average around $32,000 per injury. WorkWell needed a qualified, professional partner with the skills and personality to handle a big job—and Jacqueline filled the bill.

    I just did it today!

First you have to step up on the second rung of a ladder 3 times. Next you have to pull 100 lbs. push 100 lbs. then the fun starts. You have to do all of this 3 times

lift 30 lbs from ground to over your head
lift 50 lbs from ground to over your head
lift 75 lbs from ground to over your head
lift 85 lbs from ground to over your head

lift 25 lbs from waist to over your head
lift 50 lbs from waist to over your head

    carry 50 lbs 50 feet
    carry 75 lbs 50 feet

and they check your heart rate after each task and it has to be below a certain level based on your age.

It was a pain in the *** especially at 7 am, but everyone in my class passed them all.

After we did this then we did the drug screen and DOT physical.

    hope this helps

Is this only at Swift, or at other truck companies as well?

I was talking to my future team partner who's going through Swift orientation this week. He was telling me that a woman was dismissed today because she couldn't lift the required weight above her head.

It depends on the company. Some require more weight for flatbedders. Others will have less weight requirements for Van. Others still will also do a check on your back and what I like to call the "torture exam."
The torture exam is a series of what seem to be meaningless exercises that apparently tell them more about your physical condition other than strength. Stamina, back condition, heartrate, etc...

I had to do this when I went down to Maverick, somewhere in it I failed... They never did tell me why I failed. Though, the watch thingy did keep beeping on me, it thought I was gonna die because my heartrate at rest was in the low 70's... After doing an exercise less than a minute before.

Did you carry weights in front lift position 1 time or 3?
Was all lifting done in reps of 3?
    I was told carry 50 and 75 pounds 63 ft 3 times
    lift 20, 30 and 50 above crown 3 times
lift 20, 30 and 50 floor to waist
    pull 100 pound force
    and push 100 pound force
