There is a stretch of road east bound on I-80 in WY that always catches me, as well.
It is such a slight, but steady, decline that I don't even notice that I'm now at 67 or 68.

Then it's like... DOH!!! Got me again.
But I've never had an overspeed from it.

Top of Happy Jack down into Cheyenne ... 30 miles and just over 3000 foot drop in elevation ... heavy load, don't pay attention and you will steadily accelerate all the way down.

Where I have been caught, US 59 in TX, those fast and quick down hills. After the new ECM was installed and the jakes where not enabled with the cruise and the truck speed was off due to the rear end ration entered wrong, I had a great day of over speeds on I-75 in GA going north on the rolling hills. Once everything was reprogrammed, called in to Safety and let them know, and they where taken off my record. Speedometer was saying 72 when actually only 69

Not to get TOO side tracked, but I totally understand the I-10 east of Tucson and similar places out west where you have an optical illusion about the grade. One classic is driving from Lake Havasu, AZ to Thousand Palms, CA. I take the 95 south from the I-40 just after the scales, then take the 62 west and then the 177 south to I-10. Heading west on the 62 I could SWEAR I'm going downhill in the 10-15 mile section before the 177... but actually you're climbing about a 3% grade. One time my brother and I nearly tried to pull over and figure out how bad the engine breakdown was going to be ... "Losing power on a DOWNHILL? OMG!" Then checked the GPS for grade... "UPHILL!????"

I've often found it interesting how the general topography fools my senses.
I'll be thinking, feeling, that I am going uphill or down, an I'm on the flat.
Or the grade changes in just the right way and 'suddenly' I'm going too fast or way below speed, and I never felt or noticed the change.

I think that I simply get to relaxed.
A nice drive, listening to tunes or whatever, and I fail to notice the little things - like a gradual grade change.
No abrupt changes, it just very slowly increases one way or the other.

Now that I think about it, it is probably the most subtle of distracted driving situations there is.

And it's probably a conspiracy of the road engineers aimed specifically at us truckers!

Its interesting to read about these different locations that catch us off guard. Glzd to hear I'm not the only one that experiences this.

I checked my Follow Me option tonight on the QC and it is confirmed - my truck is now maintaining 63-64 on flat ground fully loaded. Awesome!

Reminds me of when my friends and I would go to the Go Kart track as kids. Waiting in line we'd scope out which kart was a LITTLE bit faster than the other karts, the one with the generous governor. Then it was a race to get on that kart when the gates opened for the next session. You must have been lucky to grab that truck before your buddies did!

On the other hand one of my friends was more knowledgeable about how to turn up the governor on the karts. That got us booted for the summer from the Go Kart track.... :(

I have found in my travels the ones that will get you, and get you fast are the US routes in states like MS, GA, AL, TX. they will come on you quick, especially the down side. There are some in Canada that I remember that actually had up to a 13% grade down, and the state routes, they are not regulated like the Interstates, 7%. They can be any where from 8-9%, and they are short. There is also one in MO on I think I-70 that has gotten be more than once.

I think I remember that one I-70 in MO now that I think about it.

My truck seemed to get a little faster after either my last b service or when they changed all my tires out. Not sure what effect that would have. I'm guessing the B service did it more than the tire replacement.

Ha ha I think we all watched for the fastest go cart but it was taboo to let anyone know our strategy even this everyone had the same plan.
