Something I've been wondering for a while...

What does Swift consider acceptable for out of route or taking it upon oneself to move your location when sitting?

I've gone a few miles out of route to park at a Walmart and never heard a complaint but what do you think the limitations are?

What about if you're sitting waiting on a load and you want to reposition yourself at another truck stop or Walmart nearby? 5 miles? 10? 20?

    What's your thoughts on this?

I would never hesitate to go and make myself more comfortable while waiting for a load. I just do what makes sense to me. The office jockeys can do their own thing so hump em.

I'm wary of rerouting because if the load ends up late in some cases and you go out of route (not on the GPS, I was told, but out off the fuel route they send by QC message) you can get a service failure. Almost happened to me once in Oregon when I was routed over the Cascades on a route that was not for trucks. Made me a couple of hours late and I had to fight to get it pulled off of me.

I was thinking more along the lines if I'm just sitting and want to move my location to, say get medicine at Walmart and then park there until i get a load, would it be acceptable to start my clock and move my position? How far?

It's your clock. Use it as you see fit. I've traveled 40+ miles just to get to a truck stop to park and wait. Can you say Southern Commiefornia? LOL

Not sure how they handle these kinds of things.

I've been at this Pilot for 1.5 days and most likely I won't get moved with a load until at least until tomorrow. The cold meds suck here at the Pilot. The nearest Walmart where I'm allowed to park (nearest period) is 22 miles north.

As it is I use a CPAP machine and when I'm stuffed up the way I am trying to use it is pointless and impossible. I'm debating making that drive up there and parking for the night. The only other thing that makes me reluctant is that if i stay here I'll get reset in. Its not desperately needed (16 hrs left on my 70 and about 8 hours rolling back every day after) but some meds and a flu shot wouldn't hurt right now.

True, they get to go home at night or stop off at the store on the way home. I hadnt planned on being here so long and over the weekend.

What you just described, is why it is legal to log off duty driving. Swift sucks.
I will never drive for another company, that will not allow me to drive off duty. I can understand losing the ability if you abuse it.

It will be perfectly acceptable to move from either the sleeper to the passenger seat, or the drivers seat to the passenger seat!

    They probably won't even notice!!!!:biggrin_25517:

    Does that answer your question?:biggrin_2558:

I'm not sure even how to log off duty driving. Never did it before. Sounds like Swift won't allow doing it anyway.
