Switching from dry van to tanker

Tampa terminal only has local positions and their full capacity with drivers spoke with them a few weeks ago friendly folks

 

I actually have seen their daycabs on i95 in Maine. No idea where they're going to.

 

download & try LaneFinder app, plug your zip code in & you may come up with some smaller fleet results with local or regional lanes & terminals closer to you... its free just do some research on the carriers (safer, google search, on here, ask fellow drivers, etc....) good luck

 

Not that I've done tanker, but it sounds like you made a good move in my opinion. Some of these threads just talking about tanker loads (mostly foodgrade) make it sound like they're almost as bad as waiting for reefer loads. But at least with the reefer loads you can sit in the truck during the loading process and read a book, do some pushups, lift weights, take a nap, watch a movie, cook a meal, etc.

To me, you can't beat dry van. Bump a dock, wait an hour or so (sometimes less) and then roll.

 

Thank you for this suggestion. I just checked it out. It looks like a very useful tool. I think a lot of the drivers on here would like it, because it seems to favor small and mid-size carriers. I got some really oddball results when I applied all my filters. Good stuff.

 

That sounds OK to me as long as they don't have driver-facing cameras. But I think the writing is on the wall with any hm tanker companies that don't have driver cameras as of right now. Personally, I would not do HM tanker work simply because I want to always have my wife riding with me otr, and I've heard 90% of places don't allow passengers.

 

One thing I wonder is how do they get the information for average weekly pay? Is that something the trucking companies feed to Lanefinder or is there a more honest way they get those numbers such as driver feedback?

 

I did fuel tankers. Overall, it’s a good gig.

Being at WallyWorld, we mostly drop/hook with some live loads/unloads. We’re definitely spoiled.
