Say you hit a red light and you slow down than get to the point where your lugging high side. Than need lower gears to keep going. Is it bad to put it in neutral put it into low side while coasting and wait to find your take off gear?
I was told to put it in lowside if I stopped completely.

He needs to do something otherwise hes going to end up going thru the light. What would you do in this case?
-
Sorry. Misread your post. Put it in low range if stopped.

Of course its not a good idea to make that a habit. If you keep doing it then you need to practice your shifting. But if once in a great while sometimes you have to coast to the lite if you can't get it into gear. What you should do is always looks far ahead and once you see a light stop sign traffic ect start your down shifting and by the time youre at the lite you'll be in the gear youre suppose to be and youll come to a smooth safe stop.

I just want to know if there is any validation to this at all. Weather it be isolated to different transmissions or if anyone has heard of it.

To be honest I'm not exactly sure what your question is. To answer the question in the thread title, no it's not harmful to switch to low range while slowing. If you're rolling and need to go from high to low you should flip it to low range before you take it out of gear.
