Sorry it formatted bad when i copied it to the post but the link will take you to the table and it is like i said not the best but it is an idea a Smith Table is best but it is way to complicated for this discussion it takes in to account Feed line loss connector loss and the whole nine yards and give you the exact ERP on any given system. But for the purpose of this discussion the table works.

Actually I think that's the 64" stainless steel whip. I've got the 102" whip on my Jeep. SWR was actually below 1.1 when I put it on, so I didn't touch it. Cobra 19 DXIV and I'm easily talking 20 or 30 miles with it. Lot better than the 48" Firestik fiberglass I had before (I was lucky to get 5 miles out of that one). Only thing is the tip is 13.5 feet above the ground so I usually keep it tied down around town to reduce banging on trees and bridges, which means I can't transmit unless I untie it and let it back up.

As far as tuning goes, use this procedure: Check SWR on channel 1, then on channel 40. If the SWR is lower on 1 than on 40, that means your antenna is a little too long and you should shorten it. If it's higher on 1 than it is on 40, then it's too short. In that case, without a tunable tip, there's not much you can do except add a spring or a quick disconnect under the antenna to make it a little longer. When your SWR on 1 and your SWR on 40 match, you've got it tuned as good as it's gonna get.

You got that right! I got banned for stating that I won't ever buy a radio or get work done by one of their sponsers (horror stories all over the net). Also, you can only post positive comments about their sponsers, anything remotely negative is instantly removed, and you can't even post about good shops that aren't a sponser of the site! :mmad:

granted i'm not active on that site, but have found it to be full of good information... just keep in mind on this here intarwebz... when you go to a forum, you're in someone else's house... it's their prerogative if they want to kick you out or dictate what is acceptable in their house...

and if ya don't like it, there's at least a half dozen other good ones out there. :)

and yes, bozo is a clown. lol

I'm a computer services officer in government, and have been for a very long time, and am quite intiment on what goes on the web. I have no illusions in that it's their "house", either. However, I've never been in a forum (and I've been in a great many over the years)that is so locked down as to what, or what cannot be posted, and is so biased regarding goods and services. You know what, I'm glad I'm out of there. You're right, there are much better ones out there...and with a helluva lot better knowledge base than Bozo's playpen.
