A friend just got a 1993, 357 Pete Aluminum body dump truck. I tried to match his antenna and got readings off the scale. Tried ground, moved antenna, Tried different antenna, Different co-ax always with the same reading. Grounding helped only to the point that the needle didn't slam the top of the scale but it was still off the scale...
Is it possibly the Aluminum dump body is not part of the ground plane, therefore causing reflection? If so would running a ground strap from frame to aluminum body help???

I'm guessing reflection.

Thanks for the come back Voltrucker. I think so too, any Ideas on how to get the S W R's down?

I have had 2 Pete 357's. If you are wondering about reflection causing the high SWR just raise the bed to tell. I found that using either a 3 or 4 foot tall top loaded antenna worked the best for me. Does the truck still have the factory cb coax?

Buy a Wilson 2000 Trucker series antenna. Make sure to get the longest shaft they have so you'll be above everything that could possibly reflect.

try using a no ground plane antenna.......I belive they come on the freightliner cascadias from the factory to solve the very issue you are describing. just do a google search on no ground plane cb antenna....you find several to choose from.
