Swr problems Wilson 2000

    I tuned my new Wilson cb antenna, 1.2 swr on 1, 20 and 40. When I'm going down the road, the swr is way at 3 almost, I don't understand?

    Your antenna is most likely bending toward the truck going down the road and the added road noise and obstructions nearby will throw you reading off that's why you check it in an open lot free from power lines with windows up and I prefer truck off

    Checked it in the middle of a rest stop in the middle of the desert lol. Nobody around

    Your good then you will never get an accurate reading rolling down the road though

    I just re tuned it, it was high parked, so I tilted the antenna forward about 30° and pulled the whip out a little and now it's perfect going down the road and parked, except 35-40 is a little high, but whatever.

    But if it's over 3 isn't that bad? Going down the road or not? Wouldn't it still fry the components inside when you're transmitting?

    I'm sorry, I don't know anything about CB's, just from what I've dreadfully browsed through online tonight through tons of forums. Sadly there's a whole crap ton more to CB's than I really ever wanted to know. I just wanted to be able to plug mine into the already stock connections in my truck and have it work. Now am discovering that I really need to bring my truck into a CB shop to have them figure out if mine's working correctly or not because my SWR is way too high and I don't know how to begin with diagnosing where the problem lies or even how to go about fixing it, and I'd really not like to fry this thing that I just bought.

    Just trying to understand why over 3 wouldn't matter when driving down the road transmitting but matters when checking it? I thought that's why you checked it, to make sure it wouldn't be transmitting over 3 at any time and fry the thing to bits.
