    To be more specific, what’s the ratio of driving to unloading?

    Truth be told -- that probably varies from day to day.

    If I had to guess....I'd say roughly 50/50....but again -- that will vary, depending on the routing, traffic, etc.

    @Redyates --

    If you are looking for a CDL-A job....you might tell the Forum a bit more about yourself...there are some other pretty helpful Forum members here:

    • Do you already have a CDL-A? If so -- how much driving experience do you already have?
    • What CDL endorsements (if any) do you have (tanker, hazmat, doubles/triples)?
    • If you don't have a CDL yet -- are you looking for a CDL school? If in a school -- are you almost finished?
    • Previous driving experience ok? Any accidents/citations?
    • How much home time are you looking for? Daily? Weekly? Something else?
    • What type(s) of freight interest you the most?

    Thank u for your input. The reason I was asking is I can only be on my feet for a certain amount of time. I have a condition called plantar faciitus. I can handle up and down through out the day. I was a diesel mechanic for 15 years but that requires 10-12 hours every day on your feet so I resorted to a driving job . I’m a hard worker but the condition with my feet limits me. I like the idea of the money food service drivers make, just trying to figure out if I can handle it. I skilled and very knowledgeable when it comes to commercial vehicles.

    The only disadvantage to food service in your case would be not being able to pick and choose when to be on your feet. You'd have X number of drops to make and it wouldn't matter how bad you hurt, they'd still have to be done.
    How about tanker work or LTL line haul?

    Sygma is work and your feet are going to take a beating. I ran ramps for one of their competitors, for 5yrs. Never again.

    I went through a period of plantar’s. I got lucky and stumbled onto a guy who understood the condition, explained the mechanics of it, and he fitted me into Brooks Cascadia trail shoes. In 3 days, my pain was gone. Then, I opted for a bit softer sole, for full-time use, and moved into Brooks Ghost running shoes. I’ve tried the Brooks Glycerin running shoes, which are softer yet, but, I’ve found I need a bit more support for my pronation. Carolina have a boot that has worked well for me when running ramps, but, I haven’t been able to buy them anywhere (they stay out of stock). Ortho feet have a boot that is OK. Otherwise, I’ve donated 7 pairs of boots that didn’t work. Plantar’s is frustrating. I’d suggest avoiding anything requiring working/carrying on your feet, work on stretching (regular touching/holding of your toes will stretch the muscles that cause plantar’s), and try Brooks Cascadia trail shoes, as a start.

    Thanks everyone for your input and advice. I’d like to think I can handle since you get a rest between deliveries. How long is a typical delivery? On your feet for what 1 hour? Then drive to your next?
